Since the turn of the new year we've had more possession in every game apart from Arsenal and hardly ever looked like scoring recently,Why?Too much pass for the sake of it at the back and in midfield or have teams decided the best way to beat us is on the counter attack?

I think we're one of the slowest teams in the league. Maybe that's why a lot of teams destroy us on the counter, also no Shawcross is pretty much a fucking loss in this team.

Too fucking slow and when we've slowly passed it to the winger he tries to cut in and loses it because we've got forward so slowly theyve got six men in their own box or we cross it into the fans also we sometimes go right back round to the other wing
Shooting is shite

66% possession today and only 3 shots on target. It really isn't good enough and there is more to the stats than meet the eye.
Diouf for example, hardly had a chance created for him all game!

When Everton attacked us they attacked with pace making direct runs into dangerous areas, especially Barkley. We had possession for the sake of it and passed it for the sake of it. The passing was so slow and laborious that it didn't pull Everton out of shape. We've got players capable of making direct runs at the opposition but these players are receiving the ball with their backs to goal and playing safe easy balls back to full backs and midfield. There's been absolutely no penetration to our play these last few games.

Possession stats mean absolutely nothing. Surely every football fan in the country isn't stupid enough to not understand this?

About 90% of our possession is halfway in our half to just past the half way line, sidewards and backwards, with the odd forward pass, mind numbingly boring and uncreative.

Counter attacking at pace doesn't need possession that is the domain of s l o w build up.

I think some of the time it is because of a lack of movement in front of the midfield three. Which means we hold the ball for ages waiting for someone to make a decent run. It is also the case that when we are losing, we tend to have more possession because the opposition switch tactics to hit us on the break.

It's exploding the myth that possession wins games, it doesn't, goals do. Leicester thrash Citeh on less possession. Even in the Championship Brighton won 3-0 at home with 35% possession. Has tippy tappy been found out? Under the previous manager we rarely out possessed the opposition. This season I think is generally a revolution, counter attack seems to be winning the day

I think teams have figured us out. We only seem to show any attacking bite when we hit teams on the counter at pace. If they sit back and defend deep.. we tiki taka for five minutes across the midfield.. then get bored and pump it into what is usually a loan striker surrounded by defenders.. in the hope that we can pick out that inch perfect pass.
Our inability to break teams down who are prepared to give us possession is worrying. This combined with a drop in form from our most creative players means we're really struggling to create anything of note in the final third.

BBC stats Stoke have failed to score in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time and their worst run in the top-flight since March 1985 (eight games).

You're right, goals win games and the previous manager lost his job because his team didn't score enough goals or win enough games over a sustained period. This manager will go the same way if he repeats it.

Possession is useless unless you make it count , football is a simple game coached by idiots at times , thank goodness Leicester are showing us all how simple it can be i doubt they have the most possession in any game thay play

You're right Muttley. Possession means nought if you can't score a goal and with our defence at the moment it all adds up to the kind of poor performance we saw yesterday.

I noticed yesterday that we we were too slow to get the ball out wide, and when the crosses finally came in Everton had 5-7 men in the box and we hardly ever more than 2! This needs to go much faster if our crosses are going to be successful! I also have to mention the quality of our crossing which is something Hughes must pay more attention to, as most of our crossing is shockingly bad!

Teams have sussed us a while back. Give Stoke the ball, sit in, and watch them a) struggle to break us down and b) ultimately give us the ball back, and we can break.
Ryan gives us defensive solidity when teams come as us - holding the line, going with runners, and his marshaling seems to ensure his partner does the same.
Without Ryan it's Keystone Cops. The Barkey dummy which caught us out, to put Kone clear, was pitiful. Straight from Trubshaw Cross.

It bothers me too that Arnie adopts an inside forward position and doesn't make himself available for balls down the line. I don't know what kind of tactics or game plans are discussed , but it's frustrating that we have 2 wingers on the pitch and the crosses are left to the full backs who can't cross any better than I can. Our biggest problem though is that we are shite without the leadership and organisation of Ryan at the back. Hopefully he will be back soon.

We've been most effective against teams who press us - given the opportunity we aren't a bad counter attacking side. The problems occur against teams that sit back - we don't seem to know how to unlock a packed well organised defence. Which also explains why we seem to be doing better away than at home this season.
With Shawcross out we are vulnerable at the back and once a team gets an early goal aginst us they sit back, soak up our ineffective pressure and pick us off on the break. Until we get our defence back on song our only hope for points is for us to score early and have the opposition come at us and the hopefully bag more than they do.
We've been unlucky with injuries at the back and the likes of Shaqiri (although I thought he was unlucky to get taken off yesterday) and Bojan look like they are struggling with a packed fixture schedule during monsoon season. We've got a couple of weeks off coming up - the rest might be what we need to get things back on track.

A truly believe this be down to Cameron getting injuried.
