Dj Duncan James - really enjoying the Delano Smith, Black Coffee and Lance De Sardi tracks. Quality stuff. I think you do 400 Blows a bit of a dis service, that 'Movin'' track was part of the movement that paved the way for Rave and the whole Warehouse thing. Got it's place in the history of the dancefloor. I love the Brass Construction toon too, I see 400 Blows as an update and homage rather than a rip off. They were an experimental outfit, their LP featured soundscapes and dark cut-up atmospheres amongst their spiky dance stuff. Mr Meeseeks - you posted the Riccardo 'Afternoon' track at the start of page 8, he's linked to the records I posted by the Unknown Artist. It's all a bit enigmatic and trainspotty, but I think he's the 'R' in RAL {colour coded} recordings which feature the Unknown Artist, who I gather is Petre Insperiscu, a Rumanian micro house magi. I love his beats, they do have a bit of the Herbert about them, I like the organic feel and the familiarity of the samples. In a different context. But on some of the tracks the samples sound a bit welded on, forced. I stumbled across it on Youtube and it's lead me to some great stuff. The Knowone series of dub/techo Timber Box releases are really interesting. The White Rabbit/Mr Speaker/Riders on the Storm track I posted my well be a Riccardo track/remix. You asked about Moodymann. I don't know an awful lot about him, I listened to his album Black Mahogany a lot about a decade ago, his tunes were a perfect bridge between big beat/trip hop and more house stuff. His music has a dream like quality, a bit like listening to a party in another room. There's a groove but the melody seems to stay elusive. The track DJ Duncan posted fits into that ethereal feel, I posted my favourite track off his album 3/4 pages back. Keep cutting a rug lads, football's back tomorrow.

I've had a twitter account for years and never really use it, but I can't seem to embed my Mixcloud widgets or Facebook posts on here so I thought I would link my new mix thru twitter and Voila! The embed feature actually works! This is a new dj mix I recorded very recently and just released last night. All new stuff by the way, and a couple promos. Hope you guys enjoy it. (Click the ' > PLAY' button, the player actually plays within the thread, I am very pleased this is even possible!)

Sorry I didnt mean to dismiss it but I feel Brass Construction themselves did WAAAY more for house music than that cover of them did. Look at Bucketheads etc. I will research 400 Blows a bit more and learn more about them though. Lance Desardi is cool he is (was I guess now) part of Undercover Agency with JT Donaldson. Newer school guys but still old in their own rights. Had a unique sound that became known later as the west coast sound eventhough they are not from there! Kinda like Farina with San Fran. They actually released an LP on Seasons Recordings. Here is a track they did on an amazing label called MFF based out of London run by Luke Soloman and Justin Harris. aka The Freaks.. (MFF = Music for Freaks)

(MFF = Music for Freaks) Puts some context to it, I bought a few MFF 12"s many moons ago. Got a CD compilation of their early stuff somewhere. Things this thread is inspiring me to dig for, stuff I've not listned to for a while. Dog Traxx.. and stuff. 400 Blows on the whole sound a bit dated now. 'Let the Music Play'. Edit.

I don't think any Theo has mate What's your thoughts on Moodymann? I love why do u feel and ya blessing but can't get into much of his stuff for some reason. No idea why Mr Meeseeks - You asked about Moodymann. I don't know an awful lot about him, I listened to his album Black Mahogany a lot about a decade ago, his tunes were a perfect bridge between big beat/trip hop and more house stuff. I love Moodymann and he would love that you don't like him, and prolly not like me, for me liking him. He is a funny guy like that. Ive heard accusations he is racist etc.... Made mention of something about not wanting white kids to buy his records. I could be wildly misquoting him here mind you, and I don't really believe it myself. That album Black Mahogoni LP is pretty serious though. He is part of the 3 Chairs with Rick Wilhite, Marcellus Pittman, Theo Parrish & Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann. He is integral to the Detroit scene. I own that ya blessin me track and a bunch of others. Funny enough I was talking about him last night with my buddy as we were discussing outright sampling of songs. And he was saying how he does sampling the right way and layers it like artwork and stitches soul and disco samples togeher. I mean he virtually recreates black music with other black music. I get what you mean about his stuff and frankly some of it is just unplayable from a club perspective but fuck did he release some joints. If you have not heard this being rocked somewhere deep in a pitch black warehouse at 4am with the bins pumping you havent lived! And

Glad the music is inspiring you mate Man did the FREAKS do some fucked up shit and release fucked up remixes! I'm friends with Luke on Facebook actually and the label is still active and rereleasing digitally. So is Classic Music Company, a label he runs with Derrick Carter that is fucking ACE. It's cool that MFF the label themselves is doing this and that and posting this kinda unreleased stuff:

It's the deep house thread after all. Serious banger. Giving away my weapons on here, but it's all good, Stokies Yes Dunc, I like the progression in it and the little tingling of those synth sounding pipes in the middle

Cheeers for posting the So Angawa track, it's lovely, and has opened a new window. As for thoughts on techno. I'm not really sure what it is anymore: Underworld, Hyperion, Josh Wink, Cj Bolland, Sven Vath, Black Dog, Underground Resistance, Dreadzone, The Sandals, Wubble U ?... erm? Give us a pointer Mr. mee. Well there's quite a lot of techno that's for sure! I'm not hugely into all the categorising (minimal, industrial...), although it does make it easier to traverse. I love Underground Resistance... Jeff Mills and Robert Hood especially. Robert Hood as Floorplan especially - Paradise is a nice recent album. Jeff Mills, I like the big ones like The Bells. Been into a lot of UK techno at the moment. Livity Sound has a lot of good producers. Hodge and Kowton are two of my personal favourites (I won't do YouTube links cos I don't want to make the thread any more choppy if I can help it). Also the real heavy hitters... Stuff like: Clouds - Chained to a dead camel Randomer - Bring Rrose - Waterfall In terms of labels I'm a big fan of R&S Joey Beltram - Energy Flash is a classic MPIA3 (a project of Truss') is very acidy. I'd recommend checking out Ely and Acid Badger Lakker are pretty good. Plus loads more. I know I've gone a bit overboard but it really is my favourite type of music. This tune is one of my favourite techno tunes, always lifts me up: I'm sure from your post that you'll probably already know a fair few of the artists I've mentioned. Happy to post more but I'm loving discovering more house on here. I think we're gonna need a bigger boat (another thread for techno, cus this is banging!)

The track you are thinking of IS THIS TRACK! THis is from 97 on Yoshitoshi and was/is HUGE. THe only other track I know that has that hook is by Moodymann and its in this thread, I can't Kick this feelin (when it hits) Another HUGE record at that time released on Roule records out of France (Thomas Bangalter from DAft Punk owns Roule) was by an artist named Stardust:

where does everyone get there tunes from ? i'm using mp3cool.pro I don't use websites like that Si, I purchase my music. I totally understand your passion though and wanting to find the records, I am not judging you. I myself used a file sharing application called Soulseek waaay back in the day, but I was sharing my music with other DJ's who were doing the same thing. Digitizing our vinyl record collections. Sites like the one you post are not the same thing as that, IMO. Eventhough I was doing basically the same as you I guess, but I was sharing my stuff as well, with specific users. It was a private exclusive kinda thing, and you could chat with people you were sharing with. Upsets me that new tracks are being posted up on blogs within minutes of release, its killing the scene slowly. I am telling you this mainly because I have worked with some of the artists on this thread and secondly I have a vested interest in keeping these record labels, artists and record stores afloat because me and my friends are involved within the scene as well as DJ's and producers and musicians and promoters etc.. So I would feel incredibly guilty about not trying to contribute back. But to answer your question I spent ALOT of my money growing up in this store, what a shop this is fellas. Play De Record. It was buried in the back of a Conveinece store (news agent) that you had to walk through to get into the back where there were records from floor to ceiling. The pictures dont do it justice. Picture the scene on a Thursday evening in 1997 (all the new wax arrived thursdays) And ALL the cities DJ's from ALL the different genres are packed in there shoulder to shoulder scrambling for copies of hot new 12"s, wheteher they be reggae dj's, hip hoppers, junglists, house heads. All of us were there! Heady days mate Funny enough after 25 years on Yonge St. (The major famous High Street in Downtown Toronto) they have moved this weekend! (closer to my house actually Owner Eugene in all his glory
I am actually gutted they are leaving Yonge st. This shop has been there for over half my life, eventhough they are moving a block away from my pad
Anyway..To be absolutely specific regarding your question:
ALL of the digital music I purchase, and EVERY track on this DJ MIX: are purchased at: www.traxsource.com/pro.beatport.com/+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Speaking of Toronto DJ's here is an EP by two Canadian and super old school and local Toronto legends Dino and Terry on one of my favourite, now defunct labels, Earthtones based out of the USA. (Its reincarnation so to speak is Seasons recordings) I hear what your saying Duncan. I used to collect vinyl, i loved 'diggin through the crates' at my local 2nd hand record shops and car boot sales and markets. It just got too expensive and too big, £10+ for 1 track on a white label ain't cheap. If I had a house I would of kept them and hand a music room but living in apartments there isn't much room. I did actually buy two cds last week for the first time in many years because i couldn't find them to download (legally or not) anywhere, they didn't even have you tube vids.
