On Saturday I watched a brilliant game played by two brave teams going hammer and tongue at each showing class and skill. Well, you must have been at a different game then - I thought ManU were shocking - the chant expressing the thought that they were 'less than good' was correct in my opinion. Just remember that, shall we say, 'the younger generation' think it's 'big and clever' to use swear words, especially ones beginning with F and C, but that's life sadly nowadays. If you don't like it, sing summat else! ???

But the amount of shit that's been levelled our way from rival supporters since promotion. Are we really any worse than other fans? He's talking bollocks. No, I don't think we are any worse. I've got long hair, and last season at the Etihad I got 'gyppo' shouts off some Man City fans; two charming gentleman asked me where my caravan was. The only time recently I've felt a bit uncomfortable at one of our chants was at the FA cup game at Spotland when there was a weak chorus of 'You're just a town full of paedos' towards the end when we were well up on them. I had had a good chat and a drink with some of the Rochdale fans in the bar beforehand and they were a good lot; it just seemed unecessary. But had it been a 'big' club, I probably wouldn't have minded, which probably makes me a hypocrite. And a gypo!

To be fair nik80 (not that it excuses them), most of the blokes who shouted it at me were complete slapheads; I feel envy of my beautiful thick locks, rather than my perceived traveller heritage, may have been their motivation .

Booing Aaron Ramsay would probably be the worst example of what he is talking about. It is lowlife behaviour and discredits the club. Same goes for when Arsenal fans boo Ryan. There is media bias but the media are fickle, and the bias will change very soon if we can keep up the current level on the pitch. I shudder to think that day ever arrives soon as we will be the poorer for it , The booing of Ramsey is a situation that Arsenal have unbeknownst orchestrated themselves to their detriment , not to go through the complete saga but we feel hard done by , they boo shawcross ,we retaliate by booing wobbly leg, the media and the endless Arsenal fanzines think we are cunts and write nasty things , we feel hard done by again culminating in an even more hostile atmosphere which I believe drives the players on ! Trust me booing Ramsey is a beautiful thing and one that should never be under rated !

The one chant that has wound me up more than any other by the glory hunting arrogant fuckwits is ' You've only come to see United' (obviously a supportive chant and not taking the piss out of the opposition). One reason why boxing day for me was so fuckin great...hope that doesn't offend anybody on Fleet Street....

See reply by John Fitzpatrick linkI thought the Stoke fans were brilliant. Perhaps if more of our glory hunting fans got in the oppositions face, it would help the team. Fergie criticised the prawn sandwich brigade and he was right. I thought the Jose Moriniho chants and masks were hilarious also the mock P45 And oh yes I was one of the utd fans in the away end. Bet most of the glory hunters don't know who John Fitzpatrick is.

I'm wearing my tin hat as I respond to what I have read in this thread. To be completely honest I'm in full agreement with the article as it stands. Our team now has a lot more class and as fans we need to show much more consideration and thought to the way we are perceived. When I went to the recent match at Southampton game I sat among people who were supporting the same team as myself and during the ninety minutes I was sworn at, threatened and knocked about by inconsiderate people who would not sit down and were totally inconsiderate. Only the result salvaged a great weekend! Throughout the game all I heard repeatedly chanted was "You're fu**ing shit" On Saturday I watched a brilliant game played by two brave teams going hammer and tongue at each showing class and skill and what do we chant? "You're f**king sh**" What a totally embarrassing chant that is Neanderthal at best! I know we are not that experienced at being superior and brilliant we all need to grow up and grow our reputation as a crowd of people with the humour and class to match our teams class. Everton were brilliant on Saturday but we were better! This post is not about being prudish and soft! It about being smarter and more intelligent in winning the chanting battle with the opposition. Our job is to intimidate the opposition in any way we can. I draw my own personal line at physical violence. Anything else is generally acceptable. I can tolerate the odd emotion charged racist comment but would not be happy with more persistent abuse. I have absolutely no problem with booing or songs about opposition personnels private lives. Support is not just about being loud..it also needs to unsettle the opposition. Our aim should be to intimidate the opposition, not our own supporters.

I suppose it could be booing now you mention it. It doesn't sound like thousands if people booing, it always sounds like about a dozen of them have indigestion Brilliant reply in the comments section by your good self pyrus, bang on the money :)

I don't know if mentioned on the Guardian comments, the first thing that I thought of was Danny Rose being abused and the effect it had on him. He was visibly shaken by it and it was bloody brilliant. My stepson is a Spurs fan and we went the game with my wife and daughter that day in the south stand. And it was what intimidating supporting is all about. Venting fury at an oppo player to try to help our own team. I still remember my wife's face (she is not a massive sports fan) and her comments that 'I feel so sorry for him, that was really nasty'...I advised her it was proper supporting and doesn't happen enough in my eyes.

And what was this crap about it not being a local derby. This site; www.sportmapworld.com/map/soccer/england/fa-premier-league/Shows the Theme Park as 33miles from the Brit whereas as The Hawthorns are 34 miles away. When added to all the Glory Hunters walking back to their homes in Trentham, Heron Cross and Meir Hay after the game, this was a real grudge match. It shows a complete lack of understanding of who and what Stoke fans hate most. I guess he didn't go to Everton and hear the Stoke fans singing "we only hate Man Utd". I read the Guardian and Observe, but on occasion their reporting of matters relating to Stoke lets them down badly. Here's hoping they finish outside of the Top 4 - a miserable return for a side that spent £250m in the Summer, a figure Stoke would be pleased to spend in a total of 10 seasons.

Ahhhhhh......poor innocent happy united fans had the piss taken out of them by rough nasty stokies who only go to matches to dispel their aggression and don't even appreciate their own team.....what a complete and utter load of smarmy, condescending middle class cack....probably he's from London but is secretly a shit fan. God above, please don't let bell ends like this one affect the thinking of the people making decisions about football.
