Conclusion of the article is that we have more than our fair share of small time thinking fans with inferiority complexes. I agree fully with that.
A home truth here. This message board is two thirds built on the back of insecure bickering pricks and would be better supported (as would the club) without all the pathetic bitching directed at our own players, our own fans and indeed other clubs. Including Arsenal. Sometimes the abuse is hilarious. But there are lines that get crossed all the time and that's the problem with free speech. The mods do their best with the worst of it but I would go further myself in many cases.

Nothing wrong with pointing out genuinely laughable problems at other clubs. The mourinho mask for example was in my opinion hilarious. I think this board has a lot more to answer for than the fans on the stands.

We must be doing something right if even the High and Mighty Guardian are noticing us.
Perhaps we should invite their fans to the Boothen and put a scarf around their necks to keep them warm =)

Very very strange , he's seems to miss the point that home advantage and intimidation go hand in hand and undoubtably has an effect , what's the point of having home advantage if you don't make the most of it ? To be honest he sounds a bit lemon ! I'm secure in my own confidence that I'm no "lemon" Do you honestly think that you are "intimidating" the opposition with your Cess Pitt chants My perception from your post is that you don't begin to understand the article! I have witnessed fans of Man United, Celtic, Rangers and Liverpool in the past, historically class teams, and experienced the kind of class the writer of the article pertains to. Unfortunately society is in the vortex of the plug hole and standards are a thing of the past. Only four letter profanities can be understood nowadays by today's generation and all those once great fans are slowly disappearing.

Just sent him the Everton image, Paul.
I'm guessing he'll come back with some self righteous bollocks about the article being generic and relating to all fans not just ours even, though there's no reference to that in the article.

I'm wearing my tin hat as I respond to what I have read in this thread. To be completely honest I'm in full agreement with the article as it stands. Our team now has a lot more class and as fans we need to show much more consideration and thought to the way we are perceived. When I went to the recent match at Southampton game I sat among people who were supporting the same team as myself and during the ninety minutes I was sworn at, threatened and knocked about by inconsiderate people who would not sit down and were totally inconsiderate. Only the result salvaged a great weekend! Throughout the game all I heard repeatedly chanted was "You're fu**ing shit" On Saturday I watched a brilliant game played by two brave teams going hammer and tongue at each showing class and skill and what do we chant? "You're f**king sh**" What a totally embarrassing chant that is Neanderthal at best! I know we are not that experienced at being superior and brilliant we all need to grow up and grow our reputation as a crowd of people with the humour and class to match our teams class. Everton were brilliant on Saturday but we were better! This post is not about being prudish and soft! It about being smarter and more intelligent in winning the chanting battle with the opposition. Think you should chill a bit - particularly about the sitting down. When in Rome and all that. I'm with you on the "fucking shit" chant. There's a time and place. Monday at Goodison was wrong - because, basically, they weren't fucking shite! Now if we'd been 2 or 3 up, fair enough. I did like the "If Stones can play for England, so can I" chant. The only thing missing was a profanity or two. Still, you can't have everything! "When in Rome"???????? I bought a ticket for a seat in the stand not a stand on the terrace! I do what is right! Not succumb to a disregard that perhaps twenty or so ignorant fans initiate resulting in the need for others to stand.

I personally love the "YOU'RE FUCKING SHIIIIIIT" chant. I feel sorry for you! I can't begin to understand your misguided courage in identifying yourself as such a person. Don't you even begin to understand that if a team is as bad as the one you thrive in singing about then we are disrespecting our own side because in such a case we should be winning more convincingly. To sing the song when we played against Everton on Saturday totally disregarded the reality of the game where we battled brilliantly against skill and flair and came out on top. I'll repeat hat the chant is moronic and cretinous.Set yourself some standards in life especially for any offspring you may have.

Singing "You're fucking shit" after going 1-0 up in 10 minutes is moronic. No problem when we're well ahead and playing the oppo off the park OR when an oppo player does something really bad.
As a whole I don't think we get behind our lads enough and concentrate too much on the opposition.

What a pile of shit, i don't care who it is, every single team in existence is a rival and if we can get at them or their staff by taking the piss then so be it
They talk about respect and disrespect like they aren't prying journos that stalk people to the point of suicide, they slander Shawcross to the point that he will probably never get an England call up again then have the audacity to moan about us having a laugh at a struggling team/manager's expense

No one was calling you bitter (I thought that was patently obvious ) but a hostile partisan atmosphere does intimidate the oppsition , if you think otherwise you've clearly been living in cloud cookoo land !

Perhaps ask him why Man Utd fans weren't concentrating on supporting their own team when they won 2-0 at The Brit in 2009? - and why he thought mocking Stoke was "witty" then From his match report... "Presented with an opportunity to score from a Scholes pass just before the end, Giggs lifted a shot over the bar in a manner that had the travelling support inquiring what on earth he was playing at. The United fans were in relaxed mood by, demanding to know what had happened to Stoke's famous atmosphere and wittily suggesting it was just like watching Port Vale. They weren't singing those songs in the first hour, though. Before Giggs brought a touch of calmness and class to the proceedings, with due respect to the Valiants, it was a little too much like Port Vale for comfort."www.theguardian.com/football/2009/sep/26/stoke-manchester-united

At the end of the day we've been beaten with every stick possible but have continued to improve and make our mark on the premier league.
Charlie Adam has bettered beckhams flag ship strike, fuller has matched if not surpassed bergkamp with his sublime skill v villa yet neither goal has ever been seen again. Even shaq's goal at the weekend , reminiscent of yet better than the cantona chip, has been passed off as little more than a fluke.
These people can no longer criticise the quality of our players or the way we play, so now it is our turn, the fans, to cop for some as the media try to find anyway possible to belittle our achievements.
Even the "5 reasons stoke should be your second team" contained no fewer than 3 mentions of Aaron Ramsey and his poorly leg.
We should keep the same mantra as always...fuck them all be they good or bad.
The only opinions that matter are those of stoke city and its supporters.

Spot on , weve got some right pretentious pricks though that like to put themselves in a higher moral pedestal ! The laughable part is their arguments are that society is getting worse , I can only conclude that they never went to a game in the seventies or eighties when it wasn't seen as impolite to piss on the terraces , what a trumpet !
