Funny how time plays tricks on you. I didn't think he was around recently enough to have played at the Brit and I didn't remember that the Brit was around at a time when it was still de rigeur to tuck ones shirt in to your shorts ![8-|](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/rY_vRFLA3mqqdMbEG4cF.gif) And in the picture how barren does that corner look? And who are the oppo in the green and white hoops? Oh and whoever said he was 'OK' well yes he was certainly no better than that! ![](http://i64.tinypic.com/14ca237.jpg)

I just read that Mike Oldfield was only 19 when he recorded Tubular Bells. I mean it bores me shitless but in all fairness it is a serious body of work for a teenager ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/7TTgAtwUz19SBi0cvrCX.gif)

Wasn't he nicknamed Skippy? Which was ironic considering he barely ever broke into a run let alone a skip. He was definitely only OK....but at the time that made him one of our best players!!!

My recollection of him is that he was slower than rust and emblematic of all our on-field problems at that time.
Is that wrong?

I remember when we were really bad and everything was going wrong He actually tried. Which the same can't be said for most around that time.
Not much else but he did try a bit

I went back for the end of the season (we were top of the league when I booked the flight ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/cj7bsBj2jOTuEAUVaPt5.gif) ) and he was one of the better ones at that time. Certainly in attitude.

That was Barnsley.
And Oldfield may have shown more effort than those around him but he was terrible.

One of about three games we managed to win at home after Christmas. I remember the ClubCall headline on teletext being something like "Stoke Swoop For Aussie Midfield Star" and us thinking it was Danny Tiatto who'd been on loan the season before. Then George Andrews confirmed it was Oldfield on Radio Stoke.

I had a beer with David , Chris Short and my old team mate from Staffs County Phil Robinson in Stafford after a 1-1 game against Bristol City at the Britt. 3 x top blokes and great company. If my memory serves me correctly it was Megsons last game in charge.

Saw a program recently about the making of the album(Do we still call them albums)& I didn't realise how much of an acid victim he was
