Did they play Jollees? Feel sure my folks went to see them there. My old mum saw The Three Degrees at Jollees. Gladys minus her pips was a bit of a cutie back in the day

Those brilliant female Motown artists never did worry too much about changing their names did they......Gladys, Martha, Mary, Brenda, Mabel, Barbara, Florence, Thelma to name a few. They sound like a bunch of dinner ladies at Ellison Street primary school.

It fitted in to image plan of the Motown boss Berry Gordy, most of America didn't realise these girls were black until they had several hits, in the 50's they thought Nat King Cole was white guy like Sinatra, they had never seen him, just heard his music.

Always thought of Gladys as being outside the Motown thang, always associated her with the Buddha label. I love Diana Ross & the Supremes but apparently she was jealous/wary of Gladys and persuaded Berry Gordy to effectively ostracize the Empress.
Not sure what Kenny Loggins has to do with owt. A bit more prime Ms. Knight to redress the balance, another fabulous Train track....
