This Stoke team are a clinical number nine away from doing some real damage. They craft another great chance on the break but Ibrahim Afellay can't beat the keeper.
Missing piece in the jigsaw.

Missing piece in the jigsaw. He did beat the keeper, but it was cleared off the line, however I'm being pernickety ,they could be right.

I feel we're gradually playing better and better. When (not if) the team clicks 100% we can damage anyone big-time. We have several playes who needs to adapt to playing at Premier League. It took Wollscheid half a season to adapt - getting Shaqiri, van Ginkel and Affelay to perform regularly on this level would give us an immense squad.

I think Hughes tries to pick a team based on merit, you earn your place and all that and how can you drop SJW when we're winning and he is giving it his all. I agree that Diouf is better and more threatening however

I'll say it again. No I won't. You all know what I've said a hundred times. Today proved it beyond all doubt!

Yes you can see what they mean but actually today our centre forward had no chances at all, it was Arnie, Shaqiri and Affelay who missed the chances. We'll never know what would have happened if Mame had been playing instead of Jon, but I suspect we might have won by more.

My Wolves mate is convinced we don't have enough goals in us. I've told him that once Mame clicks, he'll eat his words.

If we could get someone clinical enough to put the chances away we'd be mullering teams. Hopefully Diouf will soon start firing, and Bojan will hit his top form. We look a good team now.

Still puzzled why Diouf was given such a short time to make an impact and what has happened to Joselu who seems to have fallen off the radar.
I really rate Diouf and believe he would have put the game out of sight.

Maybe Hughes has set Walters a target to earn the contract he wants? That would be good management.

That would be good management. the contract is already signed, 2.5 years. way over the top imho unless he's being sized up for player coach role. As for chances for Arnie, Shaq, Afellay etc, thats true, but maybe a better centre forward would have got into the better positions to score.

a new striker isn't going to magically improve things, especially when diouf's proved himself more than able. at the moment the reality is that our wide-players have to improve their finishing. we're such a lethal counter-attacking team at the moment because our forward players' movement is excellent and unpredictable - any one of them could end up with the goalscoring opportunity, which is exactly what made them hard to read for the southampton defence. our attacking mids aren't spending time fashioning chances for the striker when we play on the counter, swinging crosses in etc, they're all creating chances for each other with their movement. but if that's the case then ideally you want every player in that front line to be a decent finisher. unfortunately at the moment that's not what we have right now - hopefully that will come in time, which is a scary proposition.

Diouf got 11 goals last season.
He was injured for a part of the season. He spent a month or so away at the ACON. He played quite a few games on the wing.
After all of that he still got 11. Who the fuck could do better than that?
For me, we need to play Mama as the striker more often.

Weird comment. Yesterday's game was the first time we've been particularly profligate with chances all season, and that was without Diouf, who is our #9. Our problem until yesterday was creating them, not finishing them.

So far this season we've generally wasted the good opportunities we've had with a poor decision or final pass (we did this a few times on Saturday too). Fantastic that we've at last started turning good positions into good chances, hopefully won't be long before we start converting those chances into goals at a rate higher than 1 from 8!

Yup, promising signs lately of the understanding between Arnie/Bojan/Shaq developing and it's only going to get better, if all 3 stay fit we're in for a real treat once they really get going, I honestly can't see how the oppositions defences, any of them, will cope :D

We won and created plenty. I don't think we have won by more than one yet but it's coming. I can see a Villa 4-1 away win coming soon. Maybe against the Mackems this week.

I think Diouf will make a big difference when he's back and I still think he's our number 1 forward in MHs' eyes.
It's just a case of when he feels right and when we think his head is right. I don't think MH would hesitate to give Walters a rest.
