The final cog to making this team great will be replacing him! Conna wait. Idiocy Not really. There's better players that could be there, just as there was last season. He's doing a job there but it's more of a short-mid term solution.

I think when Peter Coates says we need to sign a CDM then that's a massive clue we are going to sign a CDM
As for Charlie''s performances ..when Bojan was injured and everyone said what are we are going to do without Bojan's goals he came off the bench and banged in some goals for us.
When N'zonzi left and the cry went up ..what are going to do without N'zonzi in front of the back four .. he is got off the bench again and given it a decent go again ( in a completely different role )
He is done alright but we going to sign a CDM anyway ..even Peter Coates as said as much

I don't think it's so simple to suggest we are trying to replace Adam.

I don't think there's any point whatsoever in dropping Charlie right now. He was solid bordering on superb against Southampton and his booking was your typical Southampton booking. Greasy Cedric took the first opportunity to roll around after a genuine booking was given to their player (Ward-Prowse I think).
Personally, I wouldn't drop him at the moment, but Afellay is breathing right down his neck.

Completely agree, hes looking decent, hes involved in a winning team and I struggle go see the point in changing it. Affellay is showing with his performances he is up for the battle, so if Adam does drop his performances he seems more than capable to step straight in. Hughes at the moment seems to really be able to judge when people should be dropped or played which alot of managers struggle with.

How many clean sheets will it take before Adam is given credence for his defensive discipline?
(Not seen any of the game)

I think we would all like better players signing but it's not easy it takes time to evolve. At the moment we are a fine team performing well so there is no need to change things out of necessity. If good players come along try and sign them that's football the better the players the harder it gets to sign them with more teams challenging for them.

Another game for Charlie - another clean sheet for the team.
Still the only 2 goals we conceded in the league this season were against Watford.
So about 7 or 8 games played with our Charlie and 2 goals conceded.
But yeah hes fat, slow, cant tackle etc etc etc
Hes the perfect foil for Whelan at the moment.

I bet Bayern loved playing knock & run when he was a kid. Annoying little wind up merchant, bloody funny game though. Oh, and get off Charlie's back, Bayern. He does a cracking job for us. He's not perfect & yes, he'll be replaced eventually - like most of the team (it's called progression) will, and someone else will be taking the flak.

About 30 seconds after Ward Prowse was booked, Charlie caught someone and I thought he was booked (seeing as the Southampton fans were cheering like they'd scored a goal). Turns out it was just a free kick. Good stuff

He's doing a job and we are winning. Little disappointed that he hasn't scored on one of his shots, but lightning strikes when it wants I guess.

The final cog to making this team great will be replacing him! Conna wait. So drop SJW. Drop Adam. From a winning team. In great form. Genius. We've got no one to drop Adam for. Walters needs dropping though, it's pure idiocy to leave your main striker on the bench especially when we're struggling to score. Diouf is the far superior player and should be playing week in, week out.

They're both effective in different ways but also both technically lacking a lot of the time. Both more than make up for that in work ethic and difficulty to play against. There's really not much in it, so when one of them is in form and contributing to a winning team it makes literally no sense to change a thing.

I'd say Diouf is a better goal scorer - but SJW is a better team player - so its horses for courses, away from home SJW, and bring Dioufy on for the last 15/20 mins maybe - at home, may be the same, or both and SJW on the wing.....

I completely agree Foxy and you know what I think of Walters but it's fairly obvious that the club are concerned about our lack of goals with even our, normally, tight-lipped Chairman publicly stating that we will be looking for a striker in January. We miss so many chances in front of goal and Diouf is every bit as wasteful as Walters in that respect so I can understand why the club is looking for a 'finisher'. As it stands, I think the right selections are being made and results would tend to support that view. The only complaint I would have is that ALL of the players that are getting in on goal regularly of late (Walters, Shak. Arnie, Bojan in the main) need to hit the back of the net more than they do. Going back to the subject of the thread, Charlie is doing a great job and there's no-one in our squad that I think would be doing it better than he is. I would hope (and I do believe) that bayern isn't arguing with that point but wants us to sign someone better when we can. It's a fair comment on his part but I think he should acknowledge the part Charlie is playing in a very good team right now that, I think, can get much better.
