After a golfing hiatus of about three years, I've got back in to it this summer along with a few lads who hadn't played much before.
We've spent the summer travelling around a few local courses and have so far played: Church Broughton Malkins Bank Barlaston Greenway
As we are now entering the autumn and winter months, we were wondering which courses hold the ground well?
I know church broughton does as that's the course I always used to play at before I stopped playing, but being a par 3 only we don't want to spend the whole winter playing there.
Any other keen golfers able to shed some light on the best courses for us to play during the cold and wet winter months?

Market Drayton, Trentham Park, Astbury, Macclesfield, both courses in Leek, Cavendish, Newcastle all hold up well providing there's not more than average rainfall. There are usually some great deals on teetimes.com for some of these courses and a quite a few more within 20 to 30 miles. Mottram Hall is worth a visit too if you can get a deal.

Cheers Pearo, we'll definitely look to play a few of these over the coming months.

Barlaston has been in the best condition I've seen it this year during the summer months but it is a course to stay clear of during the wet weather months. They have done a lot of work on the drainage for the front 9 holes but it still becomes unplayable quite regularly during the winter months.

As a member of Newcastle I may be a bit biased but our course stands up really well in the winter. As a rule of thumb if we are closed due to weather so will the others. In winter we nearly always have 18 holes open all of the time . It`s in great nick as well

Prefer further afield Pennant Park is a nice course, Mottram Hall, Carden Park, The Nicklaus and Cheshire are both good, The Belfry, PGA National is a good course. Look expensive but you can get some cracking deals for all of those courses.

Onneley is the only one id really avoid during winter. It gets completely waterlogged.

A message from one of our 'departed brethren' (tazi actually) -
He says Heyrose Golf Club in Knutsford is great, drains well, greens in great nick and tee times are available for £15.
