Chopping down Mickey Droy, who probably weighed three times as much as him!

Always seemed like the perfect sub to me.
He was a decent skilful player, but seemed a bit lightweight at times. I was surprised to learn that he played over 100 games for Stoke
Didn’t he have a fall out with Waddo, and then got moved on?
I think his career went a bit downhill after that, playing in lower divisions.
I remember him having a good game against Ajax though.
He lived just off Lightwood Road!

Yes, not without ability but light weight.
End product very thin on the ground though.
Suffered in fans eyes for not being Terry Conroy.

He went Forest from us. I seem to remember Brian being uncomplimentary about him.

I met him a few times, my Dad knew him , really nice bloke, didn't really hit the heights as a player unfortunately, as Gods says, he couldn't live up to what TC had done before him.

I believe he played under Denis Smith at York. Great team in 83-84, being the first to crack the 100 point barrier.

I have a recollection of him and Jimmy Robertson alternating the no. 7 and no. 12 shirts a lot. One week one would start with the other on the bench. Next game t'other way round.
BTW, I always thought Robo was a very tidy player. Maybe fits into the "unsung hero" category.
I checked wikipedia and both players careers at Stoke are remarkably similar; Haselgrave 70-76, 144 app 8 goals, Robo 71-77, 142 apps 14 goals. I bet they weren't often on the pitch at the same time. Maybe my youthful memories aren't playing tricks.

My dad was his lecturer in sheet metalwork and fabrication at Stoke Poly (or NCFE ?) even when a player - the days when they needed something to fall back on!!! Not sure that he did though after he finished ?

Scored the first goal I ever saw at Stoke in a 1-0 win over Spurs

Not sure that he did though after he finished ? I think he went into some sort of pottery business when he finished football, unless my memory deceives me.

I lied SH, good tidy player among the stars we had at the time.
Didn't he score against manure in the last game at the Vic when they went down in 74? Cuing mayhem in the Stoke end with burning scarves and general punch ups among the shit fans. Oh happy days!
