I may have dreamt this but I seem to recall that last season the combination of Shawcross & Muniesa or Wollscheid and Muniesa worked OK but Shawcross and Wollscheid did not. If that's the case the fitness of Muniesa may as much a cause for concern as the health of Shawcross.

Is anyone and Wollscheid a good idea.

I actually prefer Wilson to Wollscheid at the moment. Doesn't mean I'm writing him off like some have. Wilson always has that one game mistake though but it's better than bambi on ice the whole match... Sigh I think I'm getting into the concerned camp the more I think about this. Fuck.

As I remember they were okay together, except home to citeh and away to Blackburn.

In the absence of Shawcross (hopefully brief) I would choose Cameron & Muniesa as my preferred cb partnership of the players we have at the club at present.

The way I see it, in Ryan's absence, is that we have two clear partnerships that work ok.
Wollscheid and Wilson or Cameron and Wilson.
Muniesa I don't trust one iota without Ryan alongside him and I don't trust Wollscheid alongside Muniesa.

Is anyone and Wollscheid a good idea. I'm afraid in my head the answer is no! He is not a bad ball player, but he is really too slow and makes too many mistakes. I still can't understand why LMH swapped Huth for Wolly! If Ryan is out I would go for Cameron and Muniesa as the centre back pairing. Wilson will be the alternative here. I said it before and can say it again that I think Tex might be a better option than Wolly, but he needs a bit more time to build up his confidence. He is strong in the air and reasonably quick, but not a good ball player.

I would play Given in defence before Woolschied.

I think Wollscheid's best games (if you take that to equal clean sheets or wins), was when he was partnering Marc Wilson.
If fit it's clearly Shawcross every time with AN Other.
I'd be happy with either Wollscheid or Muniesa, it would probably depend on the opponents.
Then of course we have Wilson and Cameron as further backup, who are more than capable.
After contributing towards the 7th best defensive record in the premier league last season, I don't think we need worry too much about the options and qualities of our center halves.

Either wollscheid or shawcross was a good combination with muniesa last season, shawcross and wollscheid didn't seem to work for some reason
