Driving through Longton and Middleport I've noticed a couple of kilns that are just being left to rot and ruin with weeds sprawling out of them and in desperate need of repair
They are what our city is all about, our heritage and as far as I'm aware they they are listed also so surely to God the city council should be maintaining them and making them a showpiece ?
I know cuts are being made to liocal funding but surely there's local businesses who would jump aboard ?
I dunno but it's tragic

It's depressing mate. Our heritage is eroding at an alarming rate. Crap council.

Some are in a dreadful state and I hope they can be repaired - maybe a lottery grant. The Longton skyline is as iconic as New York to me. Incidentally, I was surprised to see a brick bottle kiln in Rotherham. You think that they're unique to Stoke.

I agree, but I think Stoke council are too busy spending on council buildings/ offices aren't they?

Can't the council put some block paving and sleeping policemen around them?

I agree, but I think Stoke council are too busy spending on council buildings/ offices aren't they? That, and the vast wads of cash that Pervez pocketed from all the backhanders involved in that building. To be honest, if the shower of shite that passes for a council around here had their way, then all these historic landmarks would be bulldozed in an instant and the land sold off cheaply to the usual suspects to build student accommodation on. After the obligatory game of pass the parcel with brown envelopes of cash of course.

As you know, I'm from Warrington, but is the Stoke council as bad as it sounds? If so, is there any way to remove it? Like the op says, if those kilns are listed, it's a disgrace they are bing allowed to be left this way.

The one on 'Old Town road' just past The Golden Cup Pub going towards Hanley, has collapsed in the last few months, the whole old potbank site is falling down? The owner obviously isn't bothered if it falls down, it will be doing him a favour, he can then clear the ruin and sell the cleared land more easily?

In Devonport Dockyard and surrounding area there are over 100 grade one listed structures including buildings and walls that used to cost a fortune to maintain. However gradually over the years these buildings have been carefully brought back into use as offices, storage, commercial ventures etc and the cost has reduced massively whilst the old buildings now flourish and have become an integral part of Devonport. Why can't Stoke -on -Trent use this model to bring their heritage back to life?

The current lot only got elected in may but I doubt they'll be any different

I work right next to this kiln The council are like my arse. The council/heritage people won't give our landlord any money to renovate it - but have also told him that he's liable to prosecution if he attempts any renovations himself. So it's officially scaffolded and in limbo. Shite

They are just renovating the two kilns on the former Johnsons factory on leek rd and are also putting up plenty of new flats on the site too
