I'm really liking the look of our squad however there does seem an incredible number of fitness concerns. More than I ever remember. At the moment I reckon we have
Eric - reoccurring injury. Ryan - back Muni - hamstring seems dodgy Bards - repeat minor injuries Van Ginkel - Coming back from very serious injury Ireland - injury prone. Afelay - Long injury record. Odom - Coming back from serious injury Bojan - Coming back from serious injury
This isn't a negative post. I just hope we have a bit more luck than last season and that our physios are bang on the ball. All fingers crossed for this season.

Walters and Wilson were carrying knee/ankle injuries for most of last season too. Crouch with his hernia. Whelan broke his leg.

I think there are 4 factors at play here:
1. Firstly we could be simply going through the top of a natural cycle of events. The season before last Stoke had statistically the one of the lowest number of match days lost to injury.
2. Modern athletes do push themselves to extreme limits and injuries are more frequent in all sports.
3. The squad has changed to a more athletic team, who play faster, run harder, and cover more miles under MH.
4. Players are more cautious these days about not playing when injured and causing permanent damage. Players used to regularly played when not fully fit; nowadays that isn't practicable. I'm no expert but I think the practice of a cortisone injection and get out there is no longer the case.

Injury wise it feels more positive now than it did at Easter. Around that time we'd lost Odemwingie, Moses, Bojan and Muniesa. Ireland had the gashed leg, Shawcross was out and there were various niggles with Cameron, Bardsley, Pieters, Sidwell, Johnny W's knees, Crouch's cock, and even Arnie had a broken hand. Madness and a surprise that we ended so strongly.
It feels much better now. Players are returning from injuries/knocks rather than on the treatment table.
Fingers crossed for this coming season.

I wonder whether there are some negative consequences as a result of 'bulking up'. Increased muscle mass increasing the likelihood of tendon stress and damage. I'm sure all this is analysed, monitored and managed within our set up. But you conna legislate for bad luck.

Think it's based on what Bowen said recently. Was something along the lines of 'hopefully Shawcross will get some more game time this weekend'.

Just read the comments and took a deep intake of breath Like may fans, I believe this is a big concern Will MH be looking to Cameron / Muniesa ? for the Liverpool game, Wollscheid, Wilson in the mix? If Ryan is going to be unavailable for any length of time then an additional CB would be on my shopping list with the injury records of some of our defenders.
