What a player. Many Brazilians consider him to be the best ever, better than Pele even. Remarkable when you remember one of his legs was the wrong way round

Tragic story. Drank himself to death and died in poverty. The streets were packed for his funeral though.

Can you give a medical explanation of the 'wrong way round leg'? His right leg bent outwards. Also I think one of his legs was shorter than the other or something similar.

Truly amazing life story of a guy who overcame his problems to become a world class player. In some ways he was the Stanley Matthews of Brazilian football, but was over shadowed by Pele. (No one was going to over shadow our Stan!, who was far more spartan.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrincha

Brazil never lost when Garrincha and Pelly played together. Garrincha scored a beauty as late as 1966. The only positive from their 66 campaign probably.

The Little Bird. Wonderful player in a wonderful Brazil Team. Just how I remember him - "the little bird" - now he would have been a rock the city signing - even if it was a London club signing him.

A pile of bones out on the right wing would still have done a better job than Gerry McMahon and Marc Goodfellow..........
