I can't help thinking that there should be some Stoke lads on this list? bit.ly/1D2RYgnPennant, Ireland, Crouch (although Crouch is still good) all spring to mind? A lot of these type of players seem to end up at Stoke.

I think some of the players mentioned on the link is a bit of bollocks. Cant blame Kirkland going the scouse or woodgate going madrid. Sterling is a greedy fucker

Think you have it completely wrong. It is the clubs greedy to stop players playing for other clubs that is the problem. Notice it is the same clubs again and again? I can't imagine Stoke spending millions with no intention of letting him play.

John Halls! What a bell end he turned out to be and a complete waste of talent. Loved the money and the coke to much Prime example! Could have been a great player! Chose coke and minor celebrity over a decent career. Believe he fancies himself as a fashion designer now!

A lot of these type of players seem to end up at Stoke. Oh I see. Going back through your posts, you're a bit out of water, as in, not a Stoke fan, an article writing WUM... uhuh, okay, well, the three players you mentioned: There are few fans who have much time for Pennant, but exactly how was he ruined by money? He started at Notts County and was offered the chance to move to a big Premier League club as a teenager, better facilities, better equipment and more chance to progress. Where does money come into that? His career was ruined by perhaps not reaching his potential and a lack of opportunities at Arsenal. That said, since then, he's had a reasonable career, quite evidently not motivated by money. Ireland? How? He was at Citeh before the Sheikh's turned up and I doubt Aston Villa were offering big wages? Crouch? Really? Fucking really? Scored goals at EVERY club he's been at. Hardly a ruined career.

Don't think many deserve to be on that list tbh, apart from Asamoah Gyan.. Who isn't. I was wondering about Gyan the other day. I've always just thought what a potential career wasted for the sake of earning a very ridiculous fortune instead of just a fortune. But then I started thinking well, he was only a good player for a team like Sunderland. Is it really so great to play regularly for a bottom half team when you could earn 4 times as much, without even taking tax into consideration, and win trophies (admittedly low standard ones) in a much better climate than the north east of England? The more I think about it the more his career path makes sense. He was very unlikely to get signed by one of the European big boys, so why not have an easier life with more money.

Totally agree with all that, but did he not go to Russia? I think I'd try to prove myself with the best though, and just earn a fortune.

Is Assaidi on mega bucks in the far east now? Not sure if his career is ruined though, but it seems he is motivated by money more than a challenging football league.

IMHO it isn't the too much money what damages players it's the environment they are surrounded by. If you reach the age of 20 and get huge massive money it doesn't mean you can't keep striving to improve. The shit class of 92 were always on good money but several of them applied themselves and only ever got better and better because around them was encouragement to do so. The key to greatness is practice practice practice.... however much money they are or are not getting.

How do we define 'ruined'?
Is it based on the experience of the footballers themselves or our perception of what constuitues ruin? Is it restricted to their footballing performance, or are we speculating as to whether their personal lives may have been ruined due to excessive money earned from the game? How do you establish which footballers are greedy and which are not?
.....and how do we establish whether it is money alone that has impacted negatively on their performance?
