TBH most 16-17 yr old teenagers in my 6th Form tutor group, apart from immigration, wouldn't have the interest, time or motivation to understand the more complex issues at stake with in/out referendum. FFS many struggled to understand the process of a simple general election.

They don't have to be, why should they at that age . BUT most of us ( and I include myself in this) go through life paying taxes, conforming and leaving decisions to 'them' and yet those decisions affect many aspects of our's and other's lives . Specifically on the EU I think that most of us presume that we get to vote for an MEP it operates like our Parliament, ostensibly with our interests at heart and democratically. It doesn't do either!

I think they should have the vote. If they are more pro-Europe, than is old fogies, then it's up to us to give them a reason to get out. Secondly, if the younger generation are so pro-Europe, then they will eventually put us back in at some time in the future.

They're good to vote on a eu referendum soon, but not for a general election a few weeks back then?

I think that Labour would have lowered the age of voting if they had been in power, it would not surprise me in the least if 16 year olds, were more likely to vote Labour than Tory. I'm more interesting in what Cameron wants to do about it, as it puts him in a difficult situation; If he supports the referendum age being lowered, then he will be accused by many (you in particular) of being secretly pro-Europe If he supports the referendum age being lowered, then he will weaken his party's chance of being re-elected If he keeps things as they are, then he will be accused of condescension to young people. Are Scottish young people more intelligent and trustworthy than those in England and Wales?

There's nowt secretly pro Europe about Cameron ......he's said many times he's pro Europe .......my reason for the thread is my line of thought is all three party leaders are pro Europe but it would look a stitch up if cam automatically gave youngsters the vote.....better to say labour liberals forced us......you know how they get together like they did with the Scott's ref All the fucking same.....don't expect a fair one
