Glen Hoddle at Swindon was an ace player manager, only Gazza at Kettering came close to replicating his success............

Wasn't Beattie a player manager at Accrington? Yes I think he was. few and far between these days. It;s silly to expect someone spend time keeping fit and also be able manage.

Talking player managers, can anyone remember if George Eastham ever played when he was manager?

I don't think there's any in English football now is there? I seem to recall Noel Blake had a brief spell as player/manager at Exeter before he retired.

The best ever... he was a better full back than he was a manager First couple of years were fine. In fact the winter of 86/87 was amongst the best seen by a Stoke team. BUT by the end of the 88/89 season we were on a downward spiral. The only person who didn't realise this was the most important person. So Mick got a new contract....that had to be paid off.
