You can only hope that Hughes can see a finished article there that with a bit more experience and stability can play a role.
My biggest fear however (despite his reported wage) that this is a signal of the prospect of another fucking transfer window on a shoestring, picking up rejects and dogs home candidates that no one else really wants.
You can only go to that well so often.

I think Wollscheid is a good defender and worth a contract. He has a touch of the Geoff Cameron about him, in the way that he has the knack of coming out of a tackle with the ball. I think that's a massive quality to possess.
We gave him a crash course in English football and, aside from a few obvious howlers, he has been pretty solid overall when he's played. Have his 6 months with us been a success? Yes.
We have a problem with his mobility (or lack of) - let's try and help him? I could list a load of defenders with similar qualities to Wolly and a lack of pace that have been hugely successful in our league.

Terry will be the one quoted. Still astonished at the amount of people who think he had been thrown in at the deep end and a good pre-season ...blah ... blah . He looks composed when not under pressure and passes the ball well in general, but if he started pre-season now and had 2 years to settle his lack of pace and mobility will always be a liability. Nothing absolutely nothing will ever change that.

Once it's been sussed it'll be targeted time & time again, it will also restrict our tactic options. It's o.k against better teams if you intend so sit deep with deep lying central midfielders and congest the space but as we improve and look to win games from the off we should be looking to press higher up the field like Liverpool try to do so signing defenders who can cover ground quickly should be the way forward, it's common sense. £2.5 m being a bargain or not, it's a flaw that can't be improved upon, you either have pace or you don't

John Terry based his game entirely on position and he's the best defender of his generation.

Haha no mate, just an example of a great defender who has limited pace. As for Wollscheid, I'm not all that keen on him signing, he's got a lot of work to do to adapt to this league, Hughes must see something though.

John Terry is a good example of what you can achieve.
I was thinking more along the lines of a Phil Jagielka or a Jonas Olsson though. You don't have to win countless trophies to be classed as having a successful career.

You don't have to win countless trophies to be classed as having a successful career. Both of them are quite a bit more physical than Wolly and Jagielka was much quicker too when he was in his 20's. It's the lack of pace AND physicality that worries me about PW. Like I've said though, I hope he's bloody brilliant as that will be good for Stoke and everyone wins.
