No one actually on the posts though. Whelan did clear one in the 2nd half so must've been doing something right for that.

Whelan has been doing the near post job for a while, I've always been a bit suspicious of it (mainly because of his height). He just didn't attack it, it was dreadful from him.
Who was meant to be marking whoever it was that scored?

It was awful defending from start to finish.
Fonte was Wolschield's man, he's been caught ball watching and has just let Fonte go. Diouf if you wanted to be really critical should've possibly picked up the run of Fonte. The moment Wolly let Fonte go he had the run on Whelan coupled with Glen's lack of aerial prowess there's only one winner. Having said that Walters has lost his man giving him a tap in but I think it was probably going in regardless.

Whelan shouldn't really be there as he is a bit of a midget. Wollscheid was doing nothing and Diouf was right behind him but I get that he is the spare men who is meant to head it away if it comes in the middle. Bego then just moved out the way of it and SJW was not picking up his man. Terrible goal to concede.

Bloody shambles from that corner...looked unprepared and disorganised from where I was sat.

Whelan was on near post duty and went to win the ball.
Fonte was Wolly's man and he lost him so he got the run on Glenn.
Glenn had a poor game for large parts but I don't put their goal down to him AND he cleared it off the line when Bego went AWOL.

The goal was Wolly's fault.
He had a poor game yesterday.

Wollscheid was marking Fonte and completely lost him. We have been totally rubbish this year defending set pieces.

The man at the front post has to win that irrespective though, it's his sole job. He didn't attack the ball and we paid for it.

Wollscheid was marking Fonte and completely lost him. We have been totally rubbish this year defending set pieces. Hard to argue with that to be fair. Our unsettled back four hasn't helped this season but there can be no excuses when it's happening so often, that so many players are making so many basic errors time and again.

Whelans fault last week and this week for goals now, cant really blame wolfchild coz he got blocked off by his own man, perhaps just put it down to a clever run from Fonte

We used to put KJ or Crouch at the near post , needs to be a good header of the ball , not sure Whelan is the man for heading

Just seen it on TV , Whelan defending the near post has to be a bit daft surely , never mind all's well that ends well Yes Glen was also a bit daft defending the goal line and clearing when Bego got stranded. FFS it seems some people want to scrutinise his every touch of the ball and call him shit when the perception is that he was responsible for conceding a goal.

FFS it seems some people want to scrutinise his every touch of the ball and call him shit when the perception is that he was responsible for conceding a goal. It's no just Glenn though is it. There are people out here willing to pull the team apart no matter what. Irrespective of result or performance there is always someone or something these people will have a go at. I was disappointed with the performance yesterday, I saw us against West Ham last week and our performance yesterday came no where near last week's but I have confidence in this team and squad and I am certain we will continue to improve. Every individual out there yesterday has contributed to another very good season, we've seen more good performances than poor. I hate it when supporters scream abuse at the team or individual players when I'm watching a game, negative only breeds negative. Whelan is one of those frustrating players, his passing can be woeful, he makes silly challenges but he has been very, very good for most of the season and never stops working. I think we should remember how much we missed some of our 'bread and butter' players when we were in the midst of our injury crisis. Everybody, quite rightly, has a point of view and there is no problem in expressing them but some of us need to look at the language we use toward our team and players. It seems ridiculous to me that one week there are posts that tell us that an individual is gold and the following week the same individual is a completely useless piece of horse dung. Stay calm, step back and look at this fantastic work in progress.
