First half was shit. No complaints about the second. I saw it the complete opposite - apart from the goals. First half we shaded it, let down by poor quality into the box, missed a sitter. Conceded a soft set piece goal. Mostly dominated the MF Second half we scored a bit of a fluke at the start, then for the next 35 minutes we could hardly get out of our half. Happily we got a break a few minutes from the end. I'm still drinking so there's still time for my point of view to change That's how I saw it. Up until they scored we were the better side by an absolute mile. We then went missing but still managed to miss two open goals from a combined distance of 10 feet. There were flashes where you could see why Southampton are where they are but at the same time I don't think they can have too many complaints at the outcome either, can they?

I think most fans would have looked at the Saints and Sunderland fixtures and been happy with 4 points, with many taking a point yesterday and 3 next week. Clearly now we have to be going for 6. Wasn't our greatest performance but against a good side we battled and ground out a great win.

They never had a kick until the goal. We commented on how at the time it was looking like Palace all over again.

They had more possession and three times as many shots on target.
We dominated?

Possession 49/51
We had 15 total shots, they had 12.
No, we didn't dominate, it was a fairly even game which we managed to win, what's the problem.

They had more possession and three times as many shots on target. We dominated? The possession was virtually 50/50 and Bego didn't really have a save of note to make. They scored off a corner we defended poorly and other than that their other big chance was when Asmir went walkies. We missed two absolute sitters and generally were the team who looked most likely save for that ten minute spell which looked like we'd gone for a stroll in the park. We weren't great by any stretch but let's not kid ourselves that Southampton were any good and dominated us because they didn't. As soon as they got their noses in front they spent the game time wasting, fouling and moaning to the ref.

Geoff is a proud Bostonian so not really American (winks)
He is great. A good player and he has the right mentality to play at Stoke. Always work hard.

It was a poor game of football played out by two sides nowhere near their best on the day.

At times we were not brilliant, but neither were Southampton and they certainly didn't dominate us. At times our passing was awful but when it wasn't Southampton did try to shut us out. Neither team was poor, but neither team was great either. Felt we just edged it and deserved the win, I may be biased there but I like to think not. Sat where I was, pretty close to the away fans, they made a fair amount of noise until we equalised, at which point they went completely silent and seemed to lose all interest in their team. You only sing when you're winning, personified!

Anyway, I don't actually care! We won. That is all. Can argue 'til we're blue in the face about it, but the one thing nobody can deny is that we won. Even if we were rubbish (which we weren't), we still won. Football is about winning, and we won. We didn't lose, we didn't draw, we won. Southampton lost. They lost because we beat them. Did I mention, we won?

When Southampton have taken the lead this season (18 times) only Chelsea have taken something out of the game. It couldn't of been that bad a performance to get a win like that.
