How do you put an image in a thread? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Upload the picture to an "image hosting" website like photobucket: secure.photobucket.com/register

Copy the URL for the image location on photobucket and click the "insert image" button in the CREATE POST area.
you can preview the post to see if it works before you click "create post"

Please don't use the attachment feature if it's an image that's available on the Internet....follow dj's guidelines above.

If you are using an iPad then click on "Add Attachment" at the top of the reply dialogue box. This opens another box and you click on "Add Files" which opens your photo browser. Select a photo, then upload by clicking "Done". This loads it to the "Add Files" box. Click "Insert" and "Done" . That's it. You can use host photo websites like Imijur and Dropbox but will require you to set up an account which is a bit of a faff.
Alternatively, if it's a web picture not in you photo browser, use the "Add Image" icon which is 7th icon from the right at the top of the reply dialogue box. Copy and past your image URL into the dialogue box. Note that you may need to delete the http:// because that will also exist on the URL you are pasting. If the address contains 2 x http:// it will not work. You can insert a video using the "Insert Video" icon using similar method as inserting an image. This icon is 6th from the right.
Both of these processes work on my iPad and would imagine they work on a laptop.
