Hodgson didn't hang Shawcross out to dry, Cahill did.

Ryan is a proud English man who wants to play for his country and he will.

By the way Ryan was not born in Wales he was born in England.

It's full-bore insanity to ignore years of consistently good club form on the basis of a rum 20 minutes against one of the world's top strikers in a friendly. Especially when you don't have any good centre backs.

Not while Hodgson's in charge he won't. Don't want him playing for them anyway. I can totally understand Ryan wanting to play for England, but you can bet your life if he ever does (again), that he won't be at Stoke!

I would be gutted if he played for them wankers. He needs to keep on as he is, work his Bollox off and prove to Woy or whoever is next that he is good enough for the call.

I cant believe the FA are looking to extend his contract ! Not because of the "Ryan" issue but he is the wankest manager we have had in quite some time, he's a hypocrite, media whore, inept bumbling fool and I cant believe some rate him.

Woy is a yes man and lacks the character and charisma to take England far in a tournament. Ryan will not get called up if he's in the driving seat. Should he play for Wales though? If he never makes a major tournament with England he may regret not opting for Wales but I admire his decision to stand his ground and not take the easy option that would be Wales

Born in Buckley - just over the border -actually in wales Having a welsh surname myself here's the thing I always slag off the idea of Ryan Shawcross Playing for England Not least because a) they are a bunch of overrated - overpaid wasters - representing an equally useless and inept - fat - bloated - incompetent FA, guaranteed to choke when  it comes to the real matches (i.e they will never win fuck all as long as they've got holes in there arses) b) Ryan Has been ingored to the point of insult by the regime c)Hung out to dry are the only words you can use for his single cameo appearence d) Worst of all - another cap for that shower would signal his pretty much instant departure from Stoke City e) He is our captain - our rock - our leader and indespensible Whereas:- e) He could represent wales - the land of his birth f) They are on the up (vey much so) g) He would be appreciated much more  there and develop himself on an international stage H)He would satisfy any personal ambiton to play at international level without the likleyhood of him being snapped up just for having another England cap SO ---------------- given its not England (bunch of choking overrated wankers anyways) whats not to like - if you are a Stoke fan ? He's entirely unsuited to International football..... so I've been told by some on here. But this thread is talking about playing for Wales. There is a difference. You don't get to play against the top players in tournament finals.

Platini has extended the tournament qualification to such an extent that even the Welsh no hopers have a chance! It takes about three months to run the finals next time around doesn't it?

Wales are top of their group though and wouldn't put my house on us to beat them if we get drawn in the same group. Would you?

I know some people will jump down my throat here, but while Woy is in charge, Ryan doesn't have a chance. Woy isn't interested in picking a team based on ability, or form. His interests lie within the FA, and the big teams etc... He picked Tom Cleverly for years while he played shit at Man Utd and now doesn't pick him while he's shit at Villa.
The guys a fool, and until he leaves which he has no plans too, and the FA have no interest in getting rid........ Ryan isn't getting picked.

Who is the only English manager currently managing today who has reached a European final? If you can take a smallish PL club into a European final you aren't a bumbling idiot?
The England squad is relatively young, judge Hodgson on the Euro finals there's nothing to be gained in changing now.

Should Mark Hughes be judged on the poor F.A. Cup performances?

I judge him (Hodgson) on the last world cup where, we were wholly embarressing from the moment we climbed on a plane
after he'd (the manager that is) been given every opportunity to put up a decent show
err - something like the world cup before ? ( 'expertly' led by that massively expensive drivelling Italian fuckwit)
this was, and remains a hypothetical discussion point whilst the news is slow
and again I contend, If I were Ryan, Id be looking to play for wales - because this 'absolute shower' (as Terry Thomas used to quip) put total 'clodhoppers' in
like Smalling* and Jones* from United in, before him.
Put very simply therefore - Outfield Defender selection for England is a centered around who you play for not, how good you are
(which is another reason why I dont want him to get another England cap - and even if he was selected he certainly wouldnt be playing for Stoke City much longer)
ergo - if he cant be seen to be better than such lumps* where he is right now - he's got no fucking chance at all
and Geoff321 - England strictly, dont play in a league system unless you class qualifying against totally duff teams as such - but in competition - yes he
(Hodgson) should be judged on how we do

Should Mark Hughes be judged on the poor F.A. Cup performances? That argument makes absolutely no sense, the job of an international manager is geared towards performing well at big tournaments. Hodgson failed.

Hodgson has done well in the qualifying group sorenson which is like a mini league. Like the F.A. Cup the World Cup finals are a knockout tournament and therefore an off day, a player mistake, injuries etc can knock you out as happened to Stoke at Blackburn and almost against Wrexham as well.
England lost close games to Uruguay and Italy and that didn't surprise me, I always thought it was the group to avoid. The English press and most fans over hype their players, we need a good dose of reality and then we might go into a tournament with lower expectations.

To be fair he is working with a poor crop but Hodgson just is not a winner... He never played the game beyond non league. Outside Scandinavia (which I don't acknowledge as serious league football) he has never won a trophy of any kind despite managing around a dozen clubs. The guy is 67, hes been around the game for 50 years and won nowt.
He needs to go and bring someone in who knows what it takes to win.

He has won things mick, it doesn't matter where, I can name you plenty of managers who are good who've never won anything or even reached a final.
