Stokealona here we come.
Im sure Hughes will be all over this like a rash. And I do believe that Zubizaretta was friendly with Luis Enrique and didnt want him to leave so hes probably still sympathetic to Hughes' as long as he remains as manager.

As you see with Bojan and Muniesa, the vast majority of players who come through La Masia are brilliant professionals as well as players, just because Busquets is a wanker doesn't mean they all are.Roberto is hugely underrated and would no doubt be our best central midfielder if we got him.

Given the promised "land of plenty" of dosh in the Premier League, it would not surprise me to hear the majority of agents listing their players as "wants to play in England Premiership". Watch this space......................

Not sure where he would fit into our team though. He can't play the "Whelan role" and he certainly wouldn't replace N'zonzi.

If he's concerned about travel. I have no problem driving to pick him up. I'll even pay for the diesel... plus he can choose what radio station he plays in the car. Fuck it, I'll even pay a thousand pounds to get air con fitted in my car for the drive over here. Pleeeeeeeeeeeease

I think Zonzer is the bee's knees don't get me wrong but he is a bit of a mad arse and to put all the eggs in the Zonzerbasket is not prudent. We get Sergi in we can now have a plan b and start playing the 3-5-2 in addition to the 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 Les is so fond off.

Sergi Roberto would easily get into our midfield
Get rid of Palacios/Sidwell. He can play alongside Nzonzi and they both rotate the holding position.
Whelan does a great job but has anyone seen Alex Song this season? He does the ugly stuff with covering the back-four but hes also capable of bringing the ball out and starting off attacks for West Ham. Its just something that Whelan generally lacks.

Mirror reports Everton in for Roberto To be fair good players should be attracting attention. Contracted to 2019. Ouch. Roberto Martinez has made an approach to sign Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto.
Versatile Roberto has been told by Barca that he can leave in the summer and Everton are in pole position.
Stoke City also tried for Roberto in January but Barca blocked the move and yet he has still not figured in their first team plans.
Roberto's current deal expires in 2019 and Everton are keen to take him as they look to bolster their squad.
The 23-year-old made just 12 appearances for Barcelona this season, but only seven of them have come in La Liga.

In fairness I'd back us as the more attractive proposal in that fight I still think Everton would have the edge on us in the majority of transfer battles, but IF it came down to us and them as a choice for Sergi Roberto, I reckon we might hold the advantage, simply because he's got two good mates here enjoying their football.

Yes Everton have higher revenues by about 20 million a year at the moment so they can still outgun us in transfer and salary fee.
But in terms of prospects on the pitch we have caught Everton and starting to overtake them thanks for Martinez' defensive problems. He maybe Spanish but hes clearly not a winner.

Hopefully, our relative league positions at the end of the season will close the gap somewhat given that we should get more in merit payments this season whereas last season they got more than us. Also, having seen their league form this season, I suspect that they'll need more players than we will which will put a strain on their budget. I'm optimistic that we have a decent chance of getting Roberto providing the transfer fee is not ridiculous.

I don't think I've ever seen him play but know he's been very highly regarded.
Can anyone describe what kind of midfielder he is?

Like Muniesa was tipped to be the next Puyol and Bojan the next Messi, Roberto was tipped to be the next Xavi. He's got a pass completion rate of 97% or something ridiculous.

I don't think I've ever seen him play but know he's been very highly regarded. Can anyone describe what kind of midfielder he is? He was educated to play the metronome role, dictating the pace of the team and controlling the ball. Useful when attacking or defending it's a simple playstyle that's actually really difficult. Xavi would be the player most like him. Fantastic potential, not being quite good enough for the Barca first team is no shame although he has played over 50 times for the first team. Not really a defensive mid but we would have to adjust midfield roles slightly to drop Whelan.
