Taking nothing away from Stoke but they were gutless only Saturday it will take massive turnaround to stay up. Too good to go down? I don't think so.

If I were him, I'd start with one and take it from there... Agree cus anyone can talk the talk but can they walk the walk? I'm not so sure. I don't think he was at that form with spurs!

I think it was 3 all game and at home u can't afford do do that. It could spell relegation for them if they don't buck their ideas up

Who gives a monkeys ? they've escaped relegation for a few seasons plus, I get the impression their owner would like to get rid of the high wages in order to make the club more viable to sell.

The club will be a lot less viable to sell if they're in the Championship with massively reduced TV income though.

What do you think he should target? 3 wins? 2? It's called showing ambition I doubt he is trying to be realistic... I reckon 3 wins and maybe 4 draws would keep them up but 6 wins is just too over ambitious I'm not sure you understand the point I'm making. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/cj7bsBj2jOTuEAUVaPt5.gif)

Is there not a thread about this already. We won't be playing Villa again anytime soon. Haven't you heard? Tim Sherwood's the new Garry Monk.

They are similar to Leeds when they went down, in that they have had a poor team for a few years so it shouldn't be a massive surprise of they go down.
It's only their previous spell as a good team under O'Neill and relative big size (though I'm not sure how that matters given current TV contracts, gate receipts mean naff all) that means the media and other people not bothered about anyone other than the top 4 will be surprised and say comments like 'too good to go down'.
That 3 1 loss at the Brit was the worse moment since failed promotion attempts from division 2. It was yet another bad result in a terrible run and I thought if we can get outplayed easily by that shower then we had no chance of staying up . Luckily Pulls saw sense and started playing his best team after!

If I were him, I'd start with one and take it from there... Totally agree. He's unwittingly put himself and the players under more pressure from the off. As the games tick by, the "6 wins" will become harder and harder.
Tough game away at The Toon this weekend, then The Baggies at home. We know Tone will set up for a 0-0 and hope to nick something. Huge game against Sunderland away then Swansea at home. Don't see too many wins in March.
In April, they play, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City all away.
They are in deep do-do.

I can see them getting a draw up at Newcastle and then they have a base to build from. A gritty win against WBA will then see em up the ante. I earmarked Villa to go down a month ago but with a change of manager, I actually think that Sherwood will turn it round.

A Newcastle United H West Bromwich Albion A Sunderland H Swansea City A Manchester United A Tottenham Hotspur H QPR A Manchester City H Everton H West Ham United A Southampton H Burnley It's a far nicer run of fixtures than most of the teams in trouble.

Maybe, however all the other sides have more about them than Villa. Villa need something to spark them off very very quickly. Change of manager could have done that but we all saw how flat they were last week. I can't see them staying up even though it's more than possible.

They were shit last week but were only denied a point because of a freak defensive fuck up that lead to the penalty. I said on here that the result was particularly cruel on them because a point would have taken them out of the relegation positions. A game of fine margins at this time of year, I suppose. I think the key time for them is the nest four games. If they can get 4 or 5 points from those games I think they'll start getting confidence back.

He's making a rod for his own back with that comment. QPR & Burnley's run-ins are pretty horrible, and given how the bottom clubs are really struggling to pick up points, I could easily see them staying up with 3 more wins and 3/4 draws - they might not even need that. Be too optimistic and he risks keeping them up and still being seen as having missed his targets, when just staying up should be the only target for this season and for Sherwood's own good the only measure of success.
