The way Pakistan played to get that winning run, makes me wonder how much they got not to get it until the 47th over.

Gutted to be back had an amazing experience in NZ. Highlight for me was Christchurch (great stadium, loads of parks and gardens surrounding the city- nice place) and the NZ v Oz match I caught in Auckland. One of my first trips watching England. Does anyone on here do any of the tours abroad? Seriously considering the world t20 in India (in March next year) and then the subsequent Bangladesh winter tour would no doubt be a hell of an experience. Get in touch if you've been out to see England abroad over the years would love to hear your thoughts. On a different note- what a player Brendan Taylor is. It's an absolute scandal that he is t allowed to represent his country anymore now he's signed a county contract. The entire England system is fucked...loving Bob Willis tearing them a new one on the verdict. Brutally honest pundits are always good to see. But Bob Willis is also brutally two faced ......he was the most critical of all players reguarding the media during his playing days .....a hypocrite ,who at times spouts complete rubbish ! ......it's all wrote into the script I suppose .

Coaches and management presiding over World Cup disasters don't resign. Same applies in football as well as cricket. That is unless they've got another feathered nest to jump into. But we know the rules. And we see the consequences.

That really is deluded. The only mistake they made was not dropping him and stripping him of the captaincy sooner. Much sooner. That may have given them time to get the team sorted rather than moving the top order around. How on earth he thinks it proves they were wrong to drop him - I don't know? Hell, with him at the helm would we have beaten Scotland and Afghanistan? To me it kind of underlines how wrong the thinking is amongst the England camp. You drop me, performances are still poor, see I wasn't the problem. They seem to think it is their right to be in the team, and that they don't need to continue to perform and justify their place in the team.

One thought - if Cook doesn't score a ton in this series the pressure on him will be huge. If he then doesn't score one against New Zealand we could well be faced with changing the captain before the first Ashes test. Not ideal - but it will be on Cook's shoulders. That said - please score some runs Cap'n Cook. We need you in prime form against the Aussies.

It's very easy to lose site that Cook's poor form is not just in the ODI's. The pressure is on him - as it should be at this level. I think Cook sometimes thinks people want him to fail. We don't. Not at all. But he has to start delivering some runs.

Not at all. But he has to start delivering some runs. Cook's last ton was 32 innings ago in May 2013 with just 8 50's. Bell isn't much better off; one century in 24 innings. They are in good company with the recalled Trott - 2 hundreds in his last 42 innings and 18 since his last one. Such is the contribution of our senior players over the past couple of years in Test cricket. (You could add KP to that roll of dishonour; one three figure score in his last 27 visits to the wicket). It's been touched on before in this thread, certain players seem to be "undroppable". And while no one wants to see a return to the revolving door selection policy of the '90s and we all agree accept the truth in the old adage that form is temporary, class is permanent, there has to be a line when actual performance determines selection!

It's a bit much where it's taken a month of the tournament to get down to some meaningful matches.

Pakistan quick Wahab Riaz put on what was perhaps the best 5 over stint of genuine fast, aggressive bowling I've seen for in a long long time. His victim, for most of that time, was Shane Watson. (after snaring both Davie Warner and Clarke). Watson looked like a 'roo caught in the spotlight, just barely able to protect himself. Credit to Watson though, he hung in there, after being dropped at 4, he made a creditable show and having the satisfaction of scoring the winning run.
The major difference between the two sides yesterday must surely have been the poor fielding by the Pakistani's. They were dreadful.
Australia were shaky in the initial overs but gained in confidence as the match went on.
That's SA, India and Australia through. Only NZ to win today to complete the four. It should be a ripper of a semi final round.

I was at the Adelaide Oval last nigh to watch the Aussies v Pakistan.
Wahab Riaz was brilliant to watch. He gave everything to keep his team in the competition and got massive applause from every knowledgeable cricket fan at the game.
Watson deserves credit for sticking it out and seeing it through, but for about 20 balls we were saying, this will be the one he gets Watson.
Summing it up,average game,Smith all class,Watson lucky but plucky,Riaz one of the best bowling performances I ve ever seen.
On that performance,India favourites for the final.
