...said the man himself !
I was down at the Academy this morning - the full first team squad were playing a practice game and going flat out - maybe because it was so cold down there lol
Peter Odemwingie was chatting outside the entrance and I waited for him to finish so that I could have a word. I asked how his recovery was going and he said very well ( Wingie was walking very easily). He said that he starts running next week and if all goes to plan he will be playing again in April
Very positive from Wingie though you would expect little else from the man - he is a breath of fresh air and one of my favourite players
I finished by wishing him well and saying come back soon as - we need you! He made such a difference to the team last spring. Maybe too much to expect a repeat but his cheery presence in the squad will help
The Academy games themselves were not so cheery - Under 18's lost 2-0 and the under 16's lost 2-1 both against ManU. I watched the under 16's where ManU first half just took their chances. Second half Stoke were much the better team and scored a very good goal through Twiggy

Seems a really nice bloke, hope he can recover and hit even half the form he was on prior to his injury!

Cheers Paul
I do hope we find a way of offering him at least another year on his contract - perhaps with an option for a further year. Fingers crossed that he gets enough chances in April/May to show that he still has both the pace and the eye for goal which made him so useful after we signed him.
I've never known a player arrive with such an "iffy" reputation who so completely proved his critics wrong. You wonder just what West Brom and Cardiff were playing at to alienate such a gem of a player.

That's if all goes well and he has no niggles
Personally I'd be very surprised if we saw him this season and indeed if ever again in a Stoke shirt

I don't think it was as simple as that, whatever West Brom's version of events is. Wingie would hardly be likely to hop in his car and drive to London unless someone at one of the clubs had told him or his agent that there was a reason to do so. I suspect (obviously I can't prove it) that a tentative deal had been lined up and then West Brom pulled the plug and either didn't tell Wingie or his agent or told him too late when he had already arrived in London. Didn't we almost have a similar situation with a player ourselves (Cattermole from Sunderland?) where he was turned round after setting out on his way to Stoke. Had Sunderland delayed telling him by an hour or so we might have had an identical situation outside Clayton Wood.

Great if he's back in April. Even a few 10 minute run outs at the end of games and,he'll have a great chance of a new contract

I hope he does come back around April time so he has a chance to prove he's worth another contract. He's one of my favourite players and I think had he been fit we'd be a number of points better off.

Massive disappointment losing him. He was having a bit of an Indian summer here and I was looking forward to watching him play more than any other Stoke player this season - I rate him in the same bracket as Fuller for an influence he can have on a game, he seems to be able to conjure goals from nowhere or get his foot on the ball when it looks like he has no right to do so.
Very rare players can come back with all guns blazing after a full season out and even more so at his age, so I do think we have seen the last of him - hope not though

Would be nice to see him come back playing as well as he was but, at his age, it will be unlikely. We can but hope. Good luck Peter.

Have to say he looked fit - carried no weight at all What he seemed to be carrying was a pile of boxed DVD's or similar - maybe lining up a new career

I expect that he has one good season left at this level if his surgery is successful. Beyond that ....I'm not so sure.

Need his help. Watched a few games with my eldest during the World Cup. Told him that our team had a player in the World Cup that scored a goal. Bless him , he went into his primary school in deepest Sussex and gave It large. As a dad i was/am so proud.so get back soon Pete, until then, I am telling my son lies and he is passing it on to his classmates that Peter crouch got transferred to Nigeria.

Didn't we almost have a similar situation with a player ourselves (Cattermole from Sunderland?) where he was turned round after setting out on his way to Stoke. Had Sunderland delayed telling him by an hour or so we might have had an identical situation outside Clayton Wood. He sat in the Loftus Road car park and waited. And waited. And waited and waited. No such deal was made and hapless Peter was left to lick his wounds and endure international humiliation. Odemwingie was actually deserving of sympathy. Going to the effort of driving to London suggests he’d been told to do so, maybe by an agent or a club official, we may never know the full story as clubs take great pride in treating information like this with utmost confidentiality. Whatever the motivating factor, Odemwingie looked foolish by the end of the day. Transfer deadline day has become a huge hyperbole drenched media event. Television cameras are placed outside stadiums across the nation hoping for a slice of information, rumour or hint that helps them deliver news to a grateful populace. In the days before 24 hour sports channels, and a drooling social media, we may not have learnt of a transfer until reading the following days newspapers, and we didn’t know, or care how the move had come about. Perhaps Peter Odemingie’s biggest problem was that there is nowhere to hide anymore. On the pitch his success at Stoke has been pleasing because of the ludicrous way he was dismissed before even doing a training session.

Good point - but I would leave him a space -assuming no top replacements in January (was Shea taking a spot?) Even if he doesn't get named in the 25 man League squad we can still use him for the FA Cup Semi final and Final. Could make the difference between winning and another runners up spot.
