Are you bothering this year?
Got me thinking to years back when your local MP used to come knocking on your door blagging for your vote. There used to be a real buzz on local elections day but lately I haven't even had any leaflets through let alone have anyone knocking on my door.
The importance of local elections have completely dropped out now. People don't seem to bother any more because there is no emphasis or importance placed on them.
There are a big chunk of people who couldn't even tell you who their local MP is and it is mainly down to the local parties really that the numbers are falling year by year.

I voted this morning but it was like going into a morgue. Or Vale Park even.

This is partially my point Stokey. I don't know who is representing who in my area or indeed what their policies are so I am finding it hard to muster the strength to vote myself. I have never met the man who is going to get my cross, for all I know he could be anybody.

what i did last year and what ill be doing today s going down to the polling staton and writing that none of them have bothered to knock on my door, all over the ballot paper...counts as spoilt ballot and i read that last years mayoral elections were the first ever when the 'spoilt ballots won the electon!

I've had loads of pamphlets through the door.
It helps being in 'Castle with NOC - it seems to keep them on their toes.
The thing is all these pamplets just slag the other parties off. There's no "well, this is what we've done or propose" it's all whinge whinge at the other parties.
I still voted. It's my democratic right and I always will, and people, we should appreciate what our ancestors did so that we do have this right. I thank you all for listening.

Oh yes I will vote later. I am just having a trawl through the web to see who catches my eye. Mot everyone has this luxury though so you can see why some people don't vote. I did have a pamphlet through the door for UKIP slagging both Labour and Conservative off but that DID go straight in the dust bin (not even worth recycling) ;D

First time I've "voted" since being in Manc. None of the other flatmates were interested, so I trotted by myself into the centre of Moss Side, and helpfully voted for...
"A broom dressed in a suit would do better than all of these^"

I have now been trying for three days solid to cancel my working tax credits over the phone. All I get is a message saying "were experiencing high call volumes so call back later". They don't even put you in a queue. I will vote for a party who can get a grip on our failing services such as inland revenue who funnily enough are happy to have a go at you when you owe them money but can't get through to sort it out with them

I've said it before... Fuck Labour, I'm so disillusioned with their sheer and unwavering class treachery that I will not vote for them until they make some serious changes to what they've begun to stand for.
They're Tories dressed in red. Scum.

aren't most of you missing the point? It's local elections and mostly about people who help you on a local front. My sister is standing as an independent in tunstall, she lives on her own, children grown up and gone yet she managed to pull together over £75k grants etc. and get a kids play area together, she has no say in what taxes are charged, you should get to know what people do in the local area and vote for them.
I voted this morning, had leaflets off all the proposed councillors, I knew some and what a good job they do around the area, getting action groups together when we had a gypsy invasion, running local village halls etc. some were just faceless people I've never heard of. I voted for what they can do for me locally

They're Tories dressed in red. Scum. How do you work that out? We had the best pensions in the world. Knackered under Labour. Cheapest fuel in Europe. Not now. No boom or bust. It's a WORLD CREDIT CRUNCH. High tax. Very little back in service. More Strikes. More violent crime. Motorists fucked under this lot. Northern Rock. Selling our gold reserve which as lost more money than black wednesday. Getting tough on work shy? Still see the same work dossers. More useless public sector jobs created. Fucking Wales and Scotland getting free handouts from us English. I could go on but to say they are tories dressed in red is complete and utter pig wank.

Also only one of the other candidates lives in my local area.
