Can't see the next Ashes series will have much to do with Phill Hughes memory. Every thing, or very nearly everything that matters and to thread Phill's legacy into the rich fabric of cricket will have already have been done by next year. The record reads 63 not out for ever, and this is enough to remember a talented batsman with the cricketing world before him.
Even Bradman wasn't accorded the outpouring of emotion we have felt over the past week. Yes, I know the circumstances are very different - an older man dying in advanced years and a young man, full of promise, struck down in his prime. Never the less.
I thought Phill Hughes was an amazing talent and had the pleasure of watching him grow at Western Suburbs and NSW. It is so very sad we didn't get to see his potential be realised wearing his Baggy Green. No, I didn't see him play live for Middlesex, Worcestershire or Hampshire, but I read that he did himself proud there too.
He will now be seen by the Australian cricketing community in the same light as those other immortals, Jackson and Trumper. No greater praise.
Let it rest here. RIP Phillip Joel Hughes.
