It just got to the "shouting" and then the crowd chanted City
Plain and simple in them days. But a lot more variety

Clearing throat......eh hum...In Dublins fair city, where the girls are so pretty, I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone, as she wheeled her wheelbarrow, through the streets broad and narrow, crying,
Clap, Clap, Clap Clap Clap, Clap Clap Clap Clap....CITY!
Knees up Mother Brown was my favourite!!

Paddock, sort 'em out paddock, paddock sort 'em out.
You're going home in a north staffs ambulance
stokey aggro, stokey aggro
where's your father referee.
now its 'you don't know what you're doing'. Might as well be 'I'm going to tell me mummy'
Much prefer the old chants.

Got me thinking about this last week or so with the release of Harry Roberts, don't know if you would get away with it today but back then the Harry Roberts' song seemed to be sung every week to the coppers on the Boothen.

Not a chant as such (and possibly later than 70s) but the Laurel and Hardy tune when the old bill filed out in front of the Boothen always used to make me laugh.

Home, home on the range, where the deer and the antelope play, where seldom is heard but the splash of their turd, and the sky's are not cloudy all day......

'Tip toe, Through the Boothen, With yer boots on, Get yer 'ead kicked in O tip toe, Through the Boothen With me'.
'Aye aye aye aye, Banks is better than Yashin' Can't remember the rest.
Sung to 'I do like to be beside the seaside' 'And I do like to walk along the Prom Prom Prom Where the brass bands playing fuck off West Brom'.

I think it was sung by Lee Marvin from the western paint your wagon but may be wrong. Molly Mallone was an Irish legend from Dublin where she was supposed to sell fish by day and her body at night in the 17th century. There is a statue of her in Dublin. The song Sweet Molly Mallone is the unofficial anthem of Dublin according to Wiki. Of course Stokie adapted the words slightly In Stoke's fair city Where the girls are so pretty I first set my eyes on Sweet Molly Mallone As she wheeled her wheel barrow Through the streets broad and narrow Singing C..I.....C..I..T.....C..I..T..Y .....CITY! I think that's it anyway. The real lyrics: In Dublin's fair city, where the girls are so pretty I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone As she wheeled her wheelbarrow through streets broad and narrow Crying cockles and mussels alive a-live O! Plus a few more verses
