I am a Stoke supporter and a season ticket holder. I sat during the first half on Wednesday and made up my mind about some of our players. I have been willing for some of our new players to be great acquisitions and so have taken my time before deciding but I just cannot see Arnautovic or Bojan being successful on a consistent basis. Arnautovic appears to have a very high opinion of his ability but he just does not bring it to the table. His performance was poor. I wanted so much for Bojan to succeed but although the glimpses of his skill promise so much he is always going to be found out physically in the Premiership. To add to this Diouf is not setting the world alight even taking into account his great goal against Manchester City. On Wednesday it was apparent to me that offensively we were very dependent upon Walters as an attacking force. Surely this means we are not making progress!

Bojan ended up having a decent game on Wednesday and deserves another chance to show he can do it regularly, he needs time to settle into a new league that's completely different to what he's used to, Arnie is always going to be a hit and miss player its just how he is, and is the only reason we can have him, if he was consistent he'd be elsewhere. What do you expect Diouf to be doing, realistically, bare in mind he has been playing out of position for the majority of the season.

I've said this before. All three players you mention are 'damaged goods'.There's a reason they don't play for Inter Milan,Barcelona and Manchester United any more.Sometimes its attitude, sometimes it's effort ,sometimes they're not as good as they think they are.Out of the three I think Diouf will survive and even prosper. The other two I fear will go the 'Guidetti'route.Remember when he was our next big thing?Apparently he's desperate for a contract at Celtic-that's how far he's fallen.

the thing is theres no guarantees new players will solve our problems. We're struggling to put a consistent team out as it is with injuries more new faces may only add to the problems plus some those may need to settle as well.
The only one i'm thinking we may need now is a CB I wasn't convinced we did last week but Huth's new injury means we might have to think about his long term replacement. I don't think Wilson is.
Edit- Also we to think about getting rid before buying but there's not likely to be a long queue for Edu, Shea, Ness and Palacios.

We'll have a job getting them in for the New Year seeing as the transfer window doesn't open until then.

As mentioned above, we buy damaged goods at knock down prices, then are surprised when they do not perform like top dollar, unblemished goods. I saw a post earlier in the week asking why we are not as good as Southampton - well, they bought Pelle, Mane, Long, Tadic and Wanyama for massive fees, probably around £50/60m for the lot, so when we get players on frees, £1m here, £3.5m there, then should we be surprised when our players do not stack up favourably against theirs? Of course not.

Of course not. I keep saying it but English clubs are missing a massive trick. As a league, we've moved from buying cheap foreigners to foreigners that are relatively proven and expensive. Pelle signed for his previous club on loan then free. Mane and Tadic for a total of around 8M for the pair and Wanyama went to Celtic for 900k. Long has always been overpriced because he's british, so discount him for a moment. Saints could have got all of the other four for 9M two years ago. They've just paid over 43M for them. Ridiculous.

I guess as they were massively over-rewarded in the sales of Lallana, Shaw, Lambert, Chambers and Louvren, then they still came out on top finance-wise. I agree, though, that buying the players when relatively unknown is the real skill, but the UK's work permit policy works against that compared to that in the likes of Belgium, Holland, Portugal etc.

No because they wouldn't be able to sign him, but come next season I wouldn't be surprised to see him at another Prem club.

I think Diouf, Arnie and Bojan will eventually prosper, we've seen what Arnie can do when he's on form, he's just in a bad patch of form. As for new signings, we need to spend a good 6-15 million on a new CB to replace Wilson because Huth is completely fucked now he's injured again.
