To be fair to U2 they provided Johnny cash with a good version of 'one'

Why don't they just fuck off and leave us alone? After just watching them on TFI, I think you are being too kind.

Saw U2 along with the Comsat Angels at the Newcastle Mayfair in 1981.
The Comsat Angels were the big draw for me; didn't really care much for U2. Still don't. But, here's a shout out for the Angels...

One of the best bands in the world.
Principled stance on most things.
Catholic in origin and egalitarian in motive.
Each to their own but some of the chords they write are genius!

I've never minded their music to be honest, but they grow into bigger knobs by the day. It's easy to be principled when you are one of the richest men on the planet. His principles don't stretch to actually giving his wealth away? I don't blame him for that, I just wish he'd shut the fuck up.

Now that we've got Elbow I'm more than willing to lead the U2 cull. I'll gladly commandeer a pack of foxes to hunt down Bono and co. It'll require some backing though.

Seems to me its considered cool to hate them these days, therefore they could actually be the most underrated band on the planet, given that their back catalogue is up there with the very best. bono may be sanctimonious, but that doesnt make their music shit. Their music will still be played and covered in decades from now,it'll stand the test of time better than most of the inane stuff being peddled at the moment. Bono is a a colossus cunt

Saw them on that tour at Kings Hall with China Crisis and OMD. 'Sons & Fascination' and 'Sister Feelings Call' was the high point for me. 'The American' is outstanding. We should sing it for Geoff.

I'd personally say the albums from life in a day to once upon a time were brilliant. Then they got a bit lost in the 90s but the last 2 albums found that old spark. U2 had a bit of form in then middle and nothing else to me.

Empires and Dance is good and I like the John Foxx Ultravox from that time too. Boy, October, Rattle & Hum, Achtung Baby and Lemon on the U2 front is all these days.
