Can't believe some of the moaning on here. We'd lost two games on the bounce in the league at home; hadn't scored a single goal in the league at home; our players must have been nervous that they didn't lose again; N'castle might be on a bad run but have some good players in their side, and we win with a team that's learning to play together. So why all the negativity? We're a 'work-in-progress' and that win has pushed us up to 11th. We might be sorting out how to score more goals, but we're the 2nd best defence in the league. Patience, chaps. OS.

So did I, Para. It wasn't easy, and I didn't expect it to be. I actually thought it was a good, well-earned 3 points against a side that didn't roll over when they went a goal behind.

Apart from Villa and Hull I think we've been very good this season. Tonight was very nervy towards the end after our poor start at home but we got there in the end after a good display and creating many great chances.
I'm surprised if many people found too many negatives tonight

Imagine what it would be like if Colback had equalised.

A good three points obviously, but, I don't think it was a particularly good performance. We are conceding too much possession at home and are almost playing like an away side at home by trying to pick sides off on the break. Now that's fine against the likes of Chelsea, Man City etc but maybe not against Aston Villa, Leicester and Newcastle. I'm sure we'll find the right balance but we haven't found it yet!!

People expected it to be easy because Newcastle are bottom. They are a decent side with players that are hiding behind Pardew.
Once he goes their results will pick up immediately.
We played well I thought.

Far more positives than negatives for me. Moses continues to look a gem and should have been given a stonewall penalty which would potentially have seen us go 2 up quite early in the game. Crouch is playing as well as he ever has done and fully deserved his goal. Arnie is finally looking as if he is running into the form he showed in the second half of last season. He's still frustrating as hell but he's still capable of stuff most players can only dream about. Whelan seems to improve with age and Shawcross and Bego, after an indifferent start to the season, look as if they may have turned the corner.
And, as Trebor says above, out of six league games there have only been two (Hull and Villa) where we can say we were poor and in the Hull game we looked the better side until they went down to 10 mean and went to a defensive formation.
I'm concerned about Diouf - if he has done his hamstring we are going to be missing him for a while and we are starting to look very thin on the ground for strikers given Wingie's injury.
Hopefully, last night's result will have given us our mojo back in home games.

we were a pathetic non-decision and the thickness of a post away from giving them a proper thumping
we were also the diameter of a crossbar away from being pegged back for a draw that would have felt like a defeat
that's football Brian

Thought it was a decent game that showed us to be a good side that is a only smidgen away from being a very good side.
It was too open and stretched if we are honest but had we made more of some of the brilliant break away runs Moses made we could have been well clear.

Although I enjoyed the win, I didn't feel that we were comfortable. A second goal would have killed it but at 1.0 we looked a little shaky and nervous.

I watched it in a bar in Spain and was the only Stokie, most people thought we played well and look a good team, there were a few Geordies who were wanting Stoke to win to add to the pressure on Pardew, very strange.

They seem to have taken the view that they need to lose a few battles to win the war. I went on their messageboard while they were getting thumped by Arsenal last season, and they were willing Arsenal to score as many as possible to heap pressure on Pardew. They were jokingly slating their own keeper for keeping the score down.

We've got the second best defence in the league but apparently half the back four are total dog shit.
It must be down to pure luck.
