Is my mind playing tricks but the previous threads about Leicester City got me thinking. Weren't the home fans and the away fans at Filbert Street side by side in a caged end with a link type fencing dividing line that had big enough gaps for coins to get through ?
Or am I going demented ?

Not sure about demented but it sounds like you're going senile, focus on the present!

nah your not demented Dave, their "Spion kop" was a lower tier terrace behind the goal divided into 5 pens numbered SK1-5, away fans usually had SK4 &5 to the right of the goal , for cup games away fans also had the seats above, eventually they moved away fans to the side stand and cut the allocation,in the early 70's the away fans were put in the end opposite the kop

My main memory of Leicester back then was Keith Birchall (I think that was his name) running around in tights. We're used to football players wearing all sorts of things to avoid groin strains, etc. these days, but back then it just looked weird and ever so slightly dodgy.

GD It was de rigueur at the time for both sets of fans to pelt one another with loose change over the link type fencing to which you refer. So you could say you are bang on the money there GD It certainly lent a little extra frisson to a day out at Filbert Street.

They certainly were. In the same week we played Stockport and the Gannon/Steino incident happened, I was in the away end with my Sunderland supporting mate ( we both lived in Leicester at the time). I first bumped in to Odd Arnie (RIP) from the Norwegian branch - couldn't quite work out what he was doing there - combination of my lack of Norwegian and his excess of booze!
Later, the Leicester fans started up with the old we hate Geordies song, only to be drowned out by the Mackems at the last line of- we are the Geordie haters. I think to this day, there are Leicester fans trying to work that one out.....a mere 21 years ago *sigh*.

They had an end that was so low a Tony Ellis grass cutter would have knocked the windows out in no 53 Filbert St

GD No your not senile yet, I remember going there in 79, it was jampacked in that end which was split in two, I think we had 4 special trains that day and they closed off one side of the dual carriageway for the stoke fans to get from the station to the ground. Thinking back it was quite scary as my feet could hardly touch the ground on the way out, just carried out in a mass of shuffling people.

went there in about 1975, I was about fifteen, midweek game, 1-1 I recall(Lakeland might help me out here), coming back just from the ground Leicester fans completely smashed the PMT bus, as a snotty farty teenager, I shat my pants
