Had a veritable parade of visitors where I worked today - other clubs fans - along the lines of - what are you lot doing signing Barcelona players ?
good positive comments in general - most seemd to know of him
some seemed to really rate this guy and were mucho impressed - lets see eh ?
my guess - it'll take six months or more to integrate him similar to the others (Arnie - Muniesa)
so watch him 'go' - after Xmas 2014-
cant wait

This worries me, I've had similar conversations, and I was quite liking staying under the radar tbh. I fear bids may be on the way for some of our prize assets ( by which I mean arnie) if this continues

I fear bids may be on the way for some of our prize assets ( by which I mean arnie) if this continues Unfortunately this is something we are all going to have to get used to if our club is to really push on and achieve greater success. We need to become self-sustainable and this involves investing in potential, developing players and then attracting interest and making healthy profits on those investments. The only clubs that are truly immune to having their best players bought are the biggest. Even the likes of Spurs and Arsenal lose their prized assets to the sharks. It's the price of success in modern football. We can either join the party or stagnate/deteriorate.

I had exactly the same experience today. Living and working in Scotland and being a stokey i don't really get this sort of thing happen, but a Dundee utd fan and an Aberdeen fan commented.

I don't worry about bids . We don't have to sell. We can simply ask for a ridiculous amount like the rest do. Sustainability has now begun. The next chapter begins.

It's the price of success in modern football. We can either join the party or stagnate/deteriorate. We often talk about emulating Everton. Well, apart from always pushing for a top six spot, Everton are always being raided for their prize assets by the big boys. It will be a downside to sustained success, if we can achieve it. We have to pin our hopes on three things: (1) we actually start to win stuff, at least a cup, and get some more European football (2) Unlike Everton in the past, PC has more money than Bill Kenwright and we can resist having to sell players (3) the traditional Stoke team ethic and dressing room unity, along with the obvious respect from the players that Hughes and his coaching staff generate. These three factors working in balance with each other, might just be enough to keep our prize assets in a Stoke shirt for longer.

Just embrace and enjoy the next season while we still have the players. We have to accept that we don't need to sell but when bigger clubs come sniffing it's the players who will want out not the club wanting to sell although we will make some good profits ahead so we need to scout for more quality it's just a massive circle we need to stay in. Clubs who don't stay in the circle go and don't come back for a long time.

The extra attention is great - but it makes me a bit twitchy. At the end of the day, it's what every club aspires to ( and is miles better than mid-table Championship - or worse).

honestly my mate and Ajax season ticket holder laughed at me and his exact words I think were
"you wont be happy once you realised you bought a dead cat for 3 million"
just saying like.....

I fear bids may be on the way for some of our prize assets ( by which I mean arnie) if this continues It's bound to happen sooner or later but as Stoke continue to climb the ladder with next level signings the players will have to ask themselves wether they want to sit on the bench at a top 4 club or continue to play for Stoke who continue to be well run & managed.

I'm more concerned about someone coming in for the manager myself if we have a good season this season with very little spent on transfer fees (again).

We will always have an edge at home (or so you would hope) due to our fans/bearpit atmos.
If we can produce a rich vein of youth talent through the academies then I'd have no objection to being more of a selling club.
We'll always have the support and image of Stoke because it's Stoke and not Fulham/Reading or some other soulless place.
It's great to be noticed for the positive football so couple that with the working class ethic, academy set up, britannia atmosphere and we should be quite a force for the mid prem battle.

Under the radar is where the losers are. Success and positivity brings attention.
I hope the days of being the underdog against the likes of Villa are long gone.

It's not just the players that get cherry picked by the big clubs, you lose your manager. A successful season and LMH will be sought after again, that worries me more than losing the odd player. He has the status to attract these players with his considerable connections mainly due to his playing ability .I hope he wouldn't go and honour his contract but who knows. I look at Southampton and worry the same might happen to us.

I agree with Salop, we're the best club that would be interested in Sparky. Traditional top six wouldn't want him and there's not a big enough gap in size/quality with those who finished just above us.

Would it be a stretch to say Man Utd may be interested if MH carrys on in this vain? Even with his Man City past now, Van Gaal wont be there forever?

I hope you're right as I can see LMH taking us to at least 7th over the next 5 years if he stays with us.With funds available we could become a real top side.Once players like Bojan sign for us other quality players will be interested.

My Ajax mate said similar but the big difference is confidence. When Bojan was being loaned he had to adapt and perform straight away. He probably never settled either knowing that after 9 months he'd be gone. At Stoke he has plenty of time. We just need to be patient and give it to him. As he learns the game here and gels with the squad he should rediscovery some form... Well,at least I hope so.

We'll have to have a few remarkable seasons for Hughes to be poached by one of the top 6 or Barcelona if that happens then he'll have earned his move to the top and we'd all be pretty chuffed anyway.

Villa, Newcastle, Everton, a promoted Leeds, West Ham: these are all clubs that could be considered bigger than us who wouldn't reach automatically for the Johnny Foreigner identikit manager. Plenty of places for Hughes to go from here. Our main reason for him staying is the stability of the club and the chairman. There's a reason TP stayed so long.
