Huddersfield fan, absolutely loved the program
Always had a soft spot for Lou, got us in to the play offs just as the club were hitting very tough times and he even put some of his own money in to help out if I remember rightly. And he also tamed Leon Knight which not many have managed. Seems a great guy
Hope the club do something for Neil and Malcolm on Monday night. Hats off to everyone involved!

This programme provided the perfect antidote to the obscene greed & avarice of todays premiership players...people who, lets be honest, go wherever the money is.
MARVELLOUS reminded us of why we watch Stoke City, because we are part of one big family..no matter who we are or where we come from. Some things in life are.more important than money and success
Thats why this programme has struck a chord with so many people...it's as far removed from the over inflated egos of modern day footballers as it's possible to be.
It's about us, the supporters, and what makes us tick and inside each and everyone one of us lies a Nello....That's why we connect so easily with him..
I JUST WANTED TO BE HAPPY

Very Interesting! Just as side note, I've never met you Malcolm and in all likelihood never will, but whenever you post now I just think of the guy from fresh meat. I do apologise for this, but I think after Thursday, many people will be thinking the same. It must be one of the strangest feelings imaginable seeing someone else play you in a film, especially someone who, particularly for the 18-35 age range, is so well known. You have definitely made it now. It was a little odd scfcno1fan but since "I" don't do anything in the film which I'm embarrassed or ashamed about, it's fine. I said to Greg that it was odd seeing him play me, to which he replied that it was odd for him because he'd never played anyone before when the "real" person was standing at the side watching ( and if I was unhappy about the portrayal to go and see the Director, because he was only playing me how the Director told him !). My daughter put a picture on facebook of her and Greg with a "with my dad" caption which was a bit bizarre. My wife told him that "it has been great being married to you all these years" !! I confess that I hadn't heard of Fresh Meat until this happened, but GMcH looks very different in that and his character in that is a bit weird isn't he ? But of course all this is as nothing compared to Toby playing Neil with Neil watching almost every day. Not to mention Lou and Tony Curran. Lots of talk about Toby Jones (rightly so) but I thought Greg McHugh was excellent in his role - how though did you feel about it? BTW - Greg made his name up here with Gary, Tank Commander, which if you haven't seen (because, possibly, the BBC refused to show it outside Scotland) I recommend you take a look. It's excellent; try this wee clip...

After watching Marvellous last night where Nello wore a chicken suit I'm sure I was at that match. Can someone else who attended that day confirm that it was a very hot day and there was a Dog show going on around the ground. When we arrived on coach we couldn't find a pub so we had to go the offy and had a can in the park only to be accosted by a local tramp trying to nick a can.

Watched the film wih my non-football loving wife and she really enjoyed it too. So many people I know have also commented on it positively.
She asked me if Nello left when Macari did. I don't know. And if he did leave, did he return when Lou returned from Celtic. Anyone know the details?

Recorded it and just watched it. Marvellous! Well done Malcolm and everybody to do with its production. The acting was superb throughout, and Toby depicted Nello exactly how he is. I used to be sitting in Tel2U's house eating dinner of sausage and mash and Nello would walk in and sit down and say he was hungry. But he would say it in such a way that you couldn't take offence. So Tel would have to start again and make some for Nello. Then he'd eat as much as me and Tel had eaten between us. He used to knock Tel up to make him some breakfast before he went to Keele. Tel used to moan and groan at being woken up early, but Nello never went without his breakfast. LOL. Watching Lou brought it all back. They were great times under him, and no manager except Waddo has ever got into the hearts of Stokies like he did. Not everything he did was right, and he would be the first to admit it, but he had that indefinable quality of leadership that few possess. And as we've seen from this film... inside he can be a man of deep compassion and fun. He and Nello were made for each other. I thought what the film did bring out was the hidden side of what goes on in nogger. Gary Lineker's appearance and that of Uriah Rennie was great. And as somebody has already said on this thread, we now know why Rennie laughed off Gerry Taggart strangling Dennis Wise. This film ranks in SCFC memories alongside the 5-0 win at Wembley and Promotion. Marvellous! OS.

Wow. Just amazing. Hard to put into words exactly how that made me feel.
You get the feeling that the film, as great as it is, only really scratches the surface.
Testament to the man that, as fantastic as the actors are, he's the most captivating thing in it. The parts with him and Toby Jones are just mesmerizing.
By just being him he seems to shine a light that shows so much to all of us. That may sound corny but I make no apology.
As much as I loved Steino, Overson, Gleghorn etc I'd have to agree with Macari....Neil Baldwin was Lou's best signing.
Marvellous.

Nello stayed on at Stoke during Joe Jordan's spell as manager and was reunited with Lou when he returned in 1994.
The scene in the film where he was wearing the underpants actually happened during Lou's second spell at the club.
I'm pretty sure that Neil left Stoke when we left the Vic, but I'm sure there are others who'll know that fact better than me.

I work in a hotel and have a some Geordies in tonight on a confrence got talking about the match on Monday with them. For one of them to turn around and asked if I watched marvellous last night I which I replied I did and I'm very proud of how it was portrayed they all shook my hand and told me it was one of the best stories they have come across in football and in life. All in all I'm extremely proud of nello for being a stoke fan and being accepted for who he is.

I didn't want him just to leave when Lou left. Another happy aspect to the story. I'd seen Sheron's tweet regarding the underwear incident, so that's what got me thinking.

Marvellous in name and marvellous it was.
That was the best 90 minutes of television I have seen since the FA Cup semi-final.
The writing and acting was superb.
The risk with "real life" films is that they can feel stilted and contrived but there were none of those awkward jarring moments and everything just seemed to flow naturally. Even dropping the real life characters in alongside their actor equivalents really added something.
I was entertained, uplifted and also emotionally drained by the end. What more could you want from a television programme?

A couple of people have commented that he is quite a lot shorter than me and fatter ( although, sadly, I'm not at all sure that's true ) and that he didn't really sound like me, although I do think he looks a bit like me. But I don't think any of that really matters for that part. Although everything "I" did in the film is pretty much true ( well, almost everything ! ) I think in a sense my character was a representation of not just me but plenty of other ex-Keele students who have befriended and on occasion supported Neil ( and had support from him) over the years, and do to this day.

Just watched on iplayer. Brilliant, proud as always to follow the mighty potters.
The bit that got me might surprise you though. It was when Nello said "My Mum has had a bit of an episode" Now I am an exile and you may not know how much that reminds me of where I was brought up.
And Crikey wasn't That bloke from Keele Uni a top b?oke :-)

I've just watched it yet again. I think I'll always be watching it every now and then - its good for the soul. Living in Glasgow it has been great to see the reaction of people who never knew the story previously. I've had a couple of lads I work with say they want to come down to a game and meet Nello!

Met Nello on a number of occasions through the years but can anyone who used to be involved in the OO's confirm whether he managed us in a 5 aside competition down at the Brit one year? Or am I imagining it?
