It is heart warming to read the comments below this article ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif) But why the pop at Ricky Gervais in the article itself? Absolutely needless and about the most un-Nello thing you could possibly do. What was he thinking? Seems this Sam bloke to just saying "look at me" and learned absolutely zilch from the film Not one of the better written reviews I've seen, but a Grauniad reading friend suggests this is the 'style'in which this chappy usually writes his reviews. Aside from that, Sam palbably doesn't care too much for Ricky Gervais (which is understandable) and the paper seems quite happy to give him the platform to say so. Such is life:-/

Just watched the recording . I can only echo what has already been said it was funny and touching in equal measures. Made me very proud to be a Stokie. Malcolm and Lou came over very well as caring individuals, who were/are an important part in the life of this incredible man .Very cleverly portrayed by the BBC, if this does not win loads of awards I'd be amazed.

I actually quite like the Sam bloke (Wollaston)'s writing - used to read his TV reviews back in the days when I actually bought a paper, and knew he'd dig Marvellous as he's a big softie which is why I went and looked up his column online. Can't really comment on the Gervais stuff as I was only just aware that Derek existed and have never seen it. At first I thought he was on about the ' are you having a laugh' character from extras.

I don't often get too emotional, but when he broke down over his Mums death, it would have drawn a tear from a stone.

Awesome TV and awards will surely follow. I've been involved in the promo from Keele University's side and the BBC have been fantastic in their research, preparation and promotion. Everyone I've spoken to has nothing but praise for SCFC, Keele and local area. Marvellous blog feat. reaction & Neil interview below (conducted by Mr. Ant Sutcliffe, DUCK/Oatcake writer) www.keele.ac.uk/pressreleases/2014/marvellous-bbc2.htmlThanks for that mate, really enjoyed the interview and reading all the comments and tweets, excellent work, only problem is I seem to have something in my eye again..

It's always a bit difficult to gauge how popular or well received these shows are when you're so close to them, which we are as Stoke supporters who have known about this show since the filming stage.
For what it's worth though, walking around Keele today it's the only thing that ANYBODY is talking about, from the first year international students who arrived for the first time a few days ago to staff who've been here since the dawn of time. It's really quite incredible.

To all of the wankers at E4, Channel 4 etc who commission reality garbage and shit comedies - -THAT WAS WHAT REAL TELEVISION LOOKS LIKE. A classic in the making that people will be talking about in years to come in the same way that we remember some of the Dennis Potter and Alan Clarke plays from the 70's/ 80's.
.............and showed why we loved Lou so much!

Bang on mate. Sod journos, back to the real stuff. The production was everything (and much, much more) than I'd hoped. 90 minutes flew past in what seemed like 10, which is usually a good indicator. I missed it in real time last night due to a late taxi and have just watched it whilst polishing off the remains of last nights vindaloo. The Doris is coming down to me from the smoke this afternoon and she wants to watch it now I've been spouting off about it! I'll have to translate some of it for her, no doubt. Bloody posh totty ;-)

It was so good I watched it twice and picked up different things on the second viewing. Watch it again !! I've seen Nello around the Westlands a few times but I didn't realise he lived across the road from my dad ! Very touching , thought provoking and heart warming. A credit to all that were involved. It's nice to see that something good does come from the licence fee.

I don't know much about Brit newspapers these days TBH, so had to refer to someone I know who lives here and reads the thing on a regular basis. Each to their own, and maybe I'm biased, but even taking away those allegiances and connections, this has to be considered worthwhile viewing even for those with no interest or connection to football or the North Staffs area, which he doesn't seem to convey IMHO.

Lovely, just terrific - but how on earth did that get on the BBC without cops and cliches, I would seriously love to know how Pete Bowker managed to get it through the net.

Forgetting the fact that it's Stoke related, that was quite simply one of the best pieces of telly I've ever watched. There's not many programmes that can make me laugh, cry and rethink my outlook on life all at the same time. A truly unique programme, Just brilliant viewing.

One of the most beautiful pieces of film making in modern memory. Fuck gritty, life is gritty. This was a simple tale of an extraordinary man, told with compassion, kindness, humour and pathos.
My fiancé cried throughout. She said i should be very proud of my football club. I think she is right.

The scene with Nello sat at home, bursting into tears thinking of his mum brought it all back to me when my mum died

Just watched a recording, superb TV and makes me proud of Nello, the club, the fans and of course Lou.
Putting bias aside, the acting and production were superb and it must be inline for a host of awards.
Well done to all involved.
