Robbie has a season ticket at Chelsea now Wilkes i wouldnt say high profile all he is really known for is being Robbies bum boy And never knew Lemmy was a vale fan Absolutely right. Lemmy has no real interest in football.

I think that is partly the absolutely socialist 'lets hang onto the past' attitude that holds the whole of S.O.T. back in the overall scheme of things. (Sounds like the local council has been bailing them out - I dont know if this is true but if it is so:- PORT VALE IS A FAILED FOOTBALL CLUB - if it cant pay its way at the status its now at - it either goes down the league system or, ceases to existthats the way of things in all other walks of lifeAnd, as it demonstrates with a consistency that is almost remarkable these-days, a complete inability to run itself as part of the league of 72 clubs let them pack it all in and let a club from another area have a go - So because other clubs survive being in enormous amounts of Debt then this is fine. Nearly every club outside the top four has massive debt and majority of the championship.. Surely this means in real terms they can't pay their way or is it ok because it's being managed? You are right about businesses in other walks of life but football doesn't coincide with "normal" business practise. You really need to look at your own clubs accounts as You are far from self sustainable and were Coates to leave and you get relegated then you could well be in deep mither. Bigger clubs than you including Sheff Utd, Wolves, Leeds and Portmsouth have all failed. Maybe you would enjoy a league of franchises like MK Dons? Take the primer league rose tinted glasses off and actually think about how lower league clubs survive when clubs like yourselves have cut debts by 26million and we don't have a pot to piss in. Your big time attitude is embarrassing!! Wolves and Sheffield Utd are no bigger than Stoke, Portsmouth (sic) are smaller. And don't get all high and mighty on here, your club has repeatedly taken money not belonging to it, and failed to re-pay that money. Anymore bailouts by the council to your club and there must be a public enquiry (although if you go bump, I'll take that now). By the way, on an unrelated note (cough cough), did we ever get see the numbers for how much was given to charity compared to takings following the recent Alzheimers fundraiser at Vale Park?

I think the solution is an obvious one and it certainly is not that Stoke amalgamate with Vale or anyone else. Given the alternating home/away calendar football is perfect for ground sharing. It enables two clubs with their own identity to exist independently and reduces overheads massively. I know there will be those itching to say that the rivalry is too great and the history of a ground owned by a football club is too important...but if the alternative is non existence? There are no two clubs anywhere in the world that have greater rivalry than AC Milan and Inter Milan and yet they have shared the San Siro very successfully for many years.
Would Newcastle Town agree to this ?.

We could paint the away stand black and white and that would be their end. I'm pretty sure it's big enough to hold them all. Just don't want any cross-contamination. Also, to the Vale fan, we may not currently be self sustainable, but at least we're getting there. We don't go blowing all out cash on stealing a player from our local rivals then declare that we have no money. You say we wear our prem tinted glasses, but it's plain to see that Vale is a badly run club.

Vale is run and has been run by a load of incompetent fools it's not the fans fault, but every time they do this some small business gets fucked over. But because they are a football club that's ok we all have to pay tax I don't pay council tax in stoke but if I did I would refuse to pay, if stoke council are prepared to piss money away on a failed business while cutting back on essential services then that's wrong. I can already hear Fail fans "stoke had money of the council" yeh and we had the common decency to pay it back

You can quite easily make an argument that Vale are run far more tightly than ourselves. The margins for error are just so much smaller when running a club in the lower leagues. If we cock up - like signing players on big contracts who can't get in the first team (Palacios, Tongue, etc., etc.) - the Premiership and Bet365 money cover it. If Vale have problems, they're in the shit.

If Vale have problems, they're in the shit. It's true that it's a matter of scale and Vale have much tighter margins. But it seems to me that some of the people running the Vale over the years have been clueless about cutting their cloth accordingly. As for cocking up on players like Palacios and Tongue, there isn't a Premier League club that hasn't cocked up with a few signings. That's because ALL signings are a gamble and the lower down the Prem a cub is the more it usually has to gamble. Some gambles don't come off, some do (for Palacios and Tongue, there's Sorenson and Begovic, and so on).

I can see the point you are making regarding finance in the lower leagues, we were in the third tier of the system not that long ago, thing is that Port Vale have already resorted to two stints in administration recently to save their sorry arses, they have been bailed out with tax payers money, not paid their dues and still some have pity on them. If you or I were to run a business as badly as Vale have we would no longer be trading why the hell should they continue ripping people off.

It was actually over £80,000 under budget, and that kind of event is more as a way of trying to put Stoke out there to garner more interest on a wider spectrum - I know that a HS2 station in Stoke is something wanted and that by going along with these sorts of things it may be of benefit in the long term. You can argue there are better ways to do it, but that £360,000 is more likely to attract a business or business interest to Stoke than the over £2m spent on Vale with no return.

Flatten Vale park and build some flats. Money back in 5 years.

The Fail were also offered a new stadium by the council the same time we were offered ours, where the nursing home top of Festival Park is now.
They seem to forget that though....

It looks like a big number but its a drop in the ocean. 25% of your council tax already goes on propping up the final salary pension scheme. The leader of Edinburgh Council recently retired with a £1.8 million pot. I don't know what Mohammed Pervez's pot is worth but it would dwarf anything thrown at the Chelsea Flower show.

How much did the Council end writing off for the Vale last time around? Was it above 1.5 million?

At least that investment could bring business into the City, I suppose it could make up for some of the business's bankrupted every time your tin pot outfit opts for administration, scrounging no mark fcukers.

Much of Vale's current problems trace back to Billy Bell deciding he would show Stoke and the Council by committing to build the Great White Elephant Lorne Street Stand on a scale and at a cost that was way above what was actually needed.

It should be remembered that Vale Park had been neglected for years so improvements were badly needed, on top of that Vale had been in the lower divisions since the mid 1950's.
Bill Bell, along with John Rudge, produced arguably Vale's best period in their history, but a number of issues were to cause the financial problems that occurred.
The council closing of the Vale market, resurfacing of the pitch, the collapse of ITV Digital, mine shaft problems and then the Taylor report all undermined the financial stability of the club.
The other big issue at the time of Vale's success was the gates remained relatively poor and so once they were in Division 1 they found it extremely hard to compete.
Bill Bell ultimately failed to establish Vale in the top flight, or to become financially stable, whether with a bit more luck and foresight it could have been different we will never know.

Very true matey and they have still got them. It always amazes me when some Stokies have a dig at fellow Stokies because of their dislike of the vale. For my own part they should flatten vale park and turn it into a park and ride to the Brit.

Not that old fuckin chestnut the council closed our illegal market bollocks blah. blah, blah, just about sums them up a club funded by a flea market on the car park, loads of clubs were affected by the collapse of the ITV deal and the Taylor report, excuse after excuse even from Stoke supporters for the wanky outfit, as for the mine shaft problems pity it didn't swallow the whole fucking ground.

How much money did that damned market make exactly? A flat fee per stall can raise, what, a couple of hundred quid a fortnight? Hardly the missing piece in the jigsaw that was Champions League dominance for Burslem, surely?

Same could be said to you when you let the fucking roof blow off. Wasn't your cornerless unfinished shed funded by the council? Thank god for PC eh because you wouldn't have paid it off and didn't you get a nice little discount? Isn't it also built on a mine shaft next to a stinking tip?
