Couldn't give a flying fuck, if you don't live above your means you don't end up in the shit, basic economics really. Can't the rich men of the Premiership afford to throw a crumb to save them? Just thank god it isn't SCFC who find themselves in this position - as it could very well have been. Well thank god it wasn't us, it is them though they deserve everything they should have coming, poor financial management it is no coincidence that the tin pot outfit have been in admin x 2, if they go into admin again they should be kicked out of professional football, saying that the council will probably bail the scummers out again.

It sounds like its not the Vale itself but one of its subsidiary companies owned by smurf, but either way he has to pay the tax and its going to have a knock on effect at the vale somehow

Now that would be poetic justice, council tax/public money saved them and unpaid tax's sunk them that would be a pisser.

After a bit of browsing looks like its smurf moving the company between two trading names and this is an old outstanding debt by a non trading company Yes, it looks exactly like that, won't stop this thread rolling on for a couple more pages though

I personally don't, but it's Vale, and the fact is if the shoe was on the other foot and it was us in the shit they'd all be in hysterics and actively praying for us to go out of business, so fuck them, good riddance. Not all of them would... Just people like you. And me!

Disgraceful.......call your self football fans wanting a local side to go out of business, where is your heart to wish this on our close neighbours that are always glad to see the mighty potters do well and are always quick to praise our success. I hope they get through this.....But only just, then get successful season on season relegations to the lower echelons of the Northern Premier league, have to sell their own ground to pay off the tax debts, are told in no uncertain circumstances to fuck right off when they come cap in hand to use our stadium forcing them to ground share with Kidsgrove athletic or Knypersly Vics, have the indignity of a cheap supermarket like a Lidel or Poundland built on the old Vale Park ground, are taken over by some cheap skate mercenary who in a Vincent Tanesque like move forces them to play in red and white and puts the word City in their newly formed club name...... Oh no we dont want them to go out of business we want this to drag on and on so we can smile and laugh at the unwashed clowns lurching from one disaster to another whilst they entertain my deep held hatred of the club to another level. Fingers crossed

It may be us in the future, you only have to look at the championship and league 1 to see several clubs our size and bigger who are in a very poor state. We have been fortunate the last few years but it doesnt mean it will last forever. Sometimes when i read this board it makes me sick to see what some of our supporters have become; brainwashed 'EPL' consumers who think they are above everyone else and all that matters is how entertained they are. Look at the wages some of our players are on, it is disgusting.

The problem is for a club like Vale is that they're always going to be pretty much on the edge. A good cup draw or sell a decent player on and they can pocket some cash and be comfortable for a while, but normally they'll be on the edge.
With us doing well over the last few years, they'd have lost a number of their casual fans to us, and they'll see fewer new fans as the lure of the Premiership bites.
That puts them under pressure and perhaps close to the edge.
We then come to the question: can S-o-T support two teams - especially if one if doing quite well?

So did you have the same view when were up shit creak, and will you have the same view when we hit hard times again (and it WILL happened - it happens to pretty much every club outside the top clubs - see Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves, etc.)?
I'm sure you'll be wanting us to go under or will you just be two faced?
Don't you remember our recent history?
With the exception of Man U and Arsenal - I don't wish going out of business on any club.

I don't have the slightest sympathy for them. In John Rudge, they had a fantastic manager who took them to the verge of play offs to the Prem. And they reacted by hounding him out of the club for not getting promotion. They have been on the downhill slide ever since and it serves them right.
In those days, I often went to see Vale if we didn't have a game. I remember after Rudge had been sacked, there was a demonstration by those who wanted him back and they showed their support by wearing flat caps. After witnessing the appalling treatment of those people that day by the vast majority of Vale fans, I have never been to one of their games again.
They might be a professional football club and normally I would support any club that finds itself in trouble, but on this occasion I find it difficult to summon up any sympathy.

Sorry fellas it's all a bit sad to me when supporters of a club that have a guaranteed income of 40/50/60 Million a year can frown upon a club that has to survive on next to nothing and tell them to 'live within their means'. As if Port Vale are somehow extravagant or cavalier with their finances. It's becoming more and more difficult to run clubs like Port Vale and clubs at Stoke's level simply couldn't give a shit. We used to slate the Premier League clubs for this very reason before we became one of them. The game I loved has long since died and so I HAVE to live in THIS world....but I don't like it. Good luck to all those little clubs that find it damn near impossible to survive and the many millions of decent, loyal football fans that follow those clubs (including the 'handful' that follow Port Vale).

We've been close a few times. When Coates moves on - what's to stop us having a dodgy owner who'll run us into the ground? If you've been a Stoke fan more than 5 minutes you'll know that we'll be heading to shit sometime soon. If/when we do, I hope we receive sympathy from proper football fans rather than the scorn from the likes of yourself. Please tell me how you would view SCFC facing similar problems?

We've been in the premier league six years now so we must be one of the big clubs. I don't think gloryhunters is fair, some of these long suffering fans think they have suffered years of torture by watching Tony Pulis teams. No offence to any of our new American fans but its sad to see several threads congratulating ourselves for attracting these new fans who had never heard of Stoke City before 2008 and then read this thread. I hate Vale as much as the next man but its not just about them, its about English football not the global brand of the EPL.

Vale going out of business will instantly see an extra 3000 fans wanting to watch Stoke City. They're just in denial.

It would be sad to see then go but from a selfish point of view it would increase our gates enough to fill in a corner so it's a sadness I'd get over almost instantly.
Is Stoke-on-Trent big enough to support two professional football clubs?
Maybe vale should just apply for a place in the Conference and go semi-pro.

Personally I wish them all the success and hope they join Stoke in the Premier League one day. Forget the Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Cardiff etc. nothing wakes the city up like the potteries derby. Used to love the atmosphere in the city before those games.

Normally i would not want to see any club go under! But as already posted, those old enough to remember the vile vitriolic abuse that came from that lot when we were close enough to be considered rivals, SOD 'EM OFF, Not into oblivion, let them start again as others have done! Let's watch them scratch around with Norton, Kidsgrove etc! Oh, and if the rumours circulating around Crewe are to be believed, when we talk about living within their means! A player (can't remember his name) who was out of contract at Crewe has just signed for the knuckle draggers, Crewe offered him a new contract but were completely blown out of the water by Smurthwaite! Again if the stories are true we are not talking a few quid a week! Lessons do not seem to have been learned! Very happy that none of my Council tax contributions have gone towards prolonging their agony!
