That's what we need isn't it.
Who is the closest to the muscular Ivorian on our imaginary summer shopping list?
Honestly I wouldn’t mind too much if we acquired no one else at all over the summer if we could bring in a striker on his level of his stripe.
I think with everything else we now have it would make us a pretty intimidating prospect next term
So please Mr Coates and Mr Hughes, get our top boys Carto and Scholesy on the case!

A Lukaku type, to all intents and purposes.
Diouf looks powerful and quick?

Didn't we look at Bony? Was it about £12m he went for? 21 goals this season. More often than not you get what you pay.
If we want to break in that space or two above us, it's no good trying shop for about £2m. Unless you're very lucky and drop on a bargain (was mitchu £2m may be wrong) then you've got to spend on a striker. Even then no guarantees.

He's exactly the sort of player we need, they're a rare breed though and I think the days of us spending big are gone. I expect us to be looking at bargains from abroad and cast offs from other EPL clubs.

I think we need a couple more younger players in addition to the striker (which is top priority).
The squad will be one year older and we certainly have some old players.
No idea who to bring in though, an intriguing summer lies ahead.

Said exactly the same to my dad last night.
Pace, power, goal scoring.
To get that type of player on the cheap you need to get in early before they're proven.

Diouf is exactly that player, identified and chased by Hughes, who was subsequently let down by lack of support from the club.

Here's a little list of players who have scored goals in various divisions in Europe this season. La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, Russian Prem and Eredivisie.
I've compiled this in about 3 minutes. Our scouting has been criminally woeful for years. Now, I don't know how good any of these players are but people get paid handsomely for scouting and recommending players, they then come up with Danny Ings.
Antoine Griezmann Vincent Aboubakar Alfred Finnbogason Artem Dzyuba Roberto Firmino Josip Drmic Wissam Ben Yedder Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Domenico Berardi Ciro Immobile André-Pierre Gignac Carlos Bacca Ikechukwu Uche Carlos Vela Adrián Ramos Alessio Cerci Stefan Kießling Aron Johannsson Raffael Araújo Alberto Paloschi Shinji Okazaki Anthony Modeste Paulo Sergio Betanin Alberto Gilardino Graziano Pelle Yura Movsisyan Find summat in that lot, if not, look harder.

Yep, someone who can do all the hold-up play that Crouch does, but with more pace and an eye-for-goal. That kind of player- a mobile target man- costs big money. In the Premiership I can think of the following players who come close to that description:
Demba Ba Lukaku Bony Carroll Dzeko Giroud Adebayor Benteke
There are differences in how that lot play, but they've all got a bit of muscle, a goal threat and the ability to hang on to the ball. We're obviously not going to sign any of them but that's the type of player we have to source from somewhere rather than a 5 foot 6 goal poacher.

If we'd got a 21-goal striker, in the 'physical beast' mould that teams favour these days, we'd be saying he was worth £20m. He might well be in today's market. So, around 10 times what we'd be willing to pay, now that Denise has gotten through to her dad.

I removed some of the unrealistic/unattainable (in my opinion) players from hancock's list and was left with this
Vincent Aboubakar Alfred Finnbogason Artem Dzyuba Wissam Ben Yedder André-Pierre Gignac Carlos Bacca Ikechukwu Uche Aron Johannsson Raffael Araújo Alberto Paloschi Shinji Okazaki Anthony Modeste Paulo Sergio Betanin Graziano Pelle Yura Movsisyan

Yep - they'd have probably won the league had they stuck with Romelu up front. I think Mourinho has burnt his bridges with Lukaku and I expect the big man to be off in the summer, probably abroad as I doubt Everton could afford him and it would be madness to sell him to one of their rivals.

You want an upgrade on Crouch? Then sign Yuri Movsisyan (sic) from Spartak Moscow. He would suit us to a "T" spearheading our attack. Also a bit under the radar. Could be looking to leave Moscow with WW III imminent.
I saw Okazaki play for Mainz against Stuttgart in January. Full of speed, flicks and tricks, and a fair amount of guile. Smart and shifty little player that works hard and never stops running. Before you lot start caking him the Asian Jon Walters .... Okazaki has a great first touch and sheds of technique.. Also when he covers every blade of grass and chases lost causes he does it with a plan, not just to play fetch.

Doumbia would be my contribution, don't know how attainable though?

They spunked a lot of money on him and look what happened. Very risky spending a lot of money on a striker from a foreign league. When they work, they work. But when they don't, it's an embarrassment for the club. I'd rather us look at Diouf for free than risk spending over 10million for someone who is not proven.

And while I am at .... Time for my weekly plug about Makethe Diop from Al Dhafra Sporting and Culture Club in the up and coming Arabian Gulf League. You want a bargain that is flying under the radar? This lad is worth a punt. He is Kenwyne Jones with a work rate and aggressive attitude. Hard man who overpowers the oppo with strength and pace. Also nice first touch and eye for goal. Man among boys ...
