Southampton should " Stroll" to 6 points and finish on 54... Newcastle should "Stroll" to 6 points and finish on 52. Winning our last 4 is by no means impossible and should see us on 55..... Thoughts....

Win two to secure a top 10, that is a successful season as the majority of fans will agree.

I reckon we've got 10th in the bag. I can't see West Ham or Palace getting 6 more points.
Am hoping we can overtake Newcastle though. 10th is a good great season, 9th or above would be a fantastic season.

At the beginning of the season, given the lack of transfer activity, new manager and our dreadful run hangover from last season, safety in a season of transition would have been great
We have achieved safety at a canter and our style is evolving. New players are fitting in and Sparky has much longer than most to assess and plan for hopefully some new recruits with some backing from the family
Anything else is now a brucie bonus - 10th, given where we have started from this season would be a wonderful achievement. Anything higher, amazing. Even if we fall off and slip down a bit, it has been a great season.

I don't think Newcastle will stroll to 6 points at all, they're in a horrendous run of form. Southampton are probably a little bit too far out of reach, but they've got a couple of difficult fixtures and 2 or 3 England players with one eye on the World Cup.
There's no reason why we can't take 9 to 12 points from our remaining fixtures, but 10th and top Midlands club is surely all but secure.

Indeed, Newcastle would struggle to take a stroll in the park from what we saw on Saturday.
6 points or above would be great for us

Bearing in mind we were in the relegation zone on February the 1st finishing in the top 9 would be a monumental achievement

Does not seem 5 minutes ago that I was watching Walters miss his penalty at Liverpool.

We have had a steady season and will finish 10 or 9 which is roughly where the status quo says we should.
We have done it not so much under the radar but without the fanfare or wankfest that Swansea and Southampton got last year that keeps us more grounded. Maintaining this next year with an improvement away would see good progress

I think Southampton will struggle to get 6 points, my guess is 5 and reach 53 points. Newcastle should get 6 points to reach 52, but might slip up in one match and only get 4 to reach 50 points. Stoke to win all their matches would be a dream, but being more realistic winning 2 and drawing 2 is more likely to get 8 points and reach 51. So IMO 10th place in most probable and most of us would have snatched your hand off if that had been offered on the opening day of the season and even more so after the transfer windows closed, when there was a lot of doom and gloom on this site.

I can see Newcastle just desperate to get the season finished and struggling to get many more points.
Southampton comfortable with another good finish to the season, in ok form and many players looking at the world cup with thoughts of their recent teammates injury fresh.
We are the ones in good form, the easiest fixtures of the three and the noises from the camp being that Sparky is really pushing hard to motivate them for a strong finish. 9th is on chaps. 8)

Can you imagine if we won all four of our last games!! The thing is, on paper it seems possible - Or is that just wishful thinking?

10th spot (our best in the Prem) and beating our highest points total would be fantastic and I'd be more than happy, as I suspect would Hughes. One win and two draws wouldn't really be too shabby now would it?

9th would be an outstanding achievement, 8th would be 'unbelievable, Geoff'! In January we'd have jumped at the chance to finish the season safely. First season with a new manager, a change of playing style and spending what in the grand scheme of things is considered very little, anything above 17th would have been a 'successful' season. Personally, I'm thrilled with our current position, and as happy as many would have been with 10th, with the run in's NUFC and SFC have got and a 6 point gap below, 9th seems quite achievable. Does anybody know how much each step up is worth in money terms? What do the Prem pay for a 8/9/10th place finish? The thing is, what target do we set for next season?! Cup run has always been a target, silverware of some sort is an obvious target, but I'm talking league terms, surely to finish any higher than 8th would require a step up from our wage structure and some significant investment in players, things which I'm not sure we'll see in the summer... Or could a top 10 finish be the catalyst to ignite some spending?

There seems to be a general feeling that we'll spend very little this Summer but I'm not so sure. A lot will depend on Begovic staying or going I guess. Also, we need to make a considerable effort to offload some of our squad players who clearly have no future (I won't bother listing the usual suspects). This will free up wages and enable us at least to use the loans system positively which is an investment in itself if we set our sights high and pay equally high wages to bring those players in. It's a high risk as said players would likely be on their way come the end of the season but who knows, one or both could end up staying if fees can be agreed. Mark Hughes has only just begun to put his stamp on this team. Look what he achieved at Blackburn Rovers in terms of league placing. I'd be happy with that.

Finishing 8th has a massive impact on the type of player we might attract compared to a 14th place

Newcastle:
Last 16 games since they hammered us on 26th December 2013: L 11 D 1 W 4 (when they won those games, Fulham were in 20th, Palace were 17th and West Ham were 18th. they beat Hull who were in 11th at the start of March but the last time they beat ANYONE above 17th before then was us in December!!!!)
Conceded 28 Scored 10 Played 11 games without Loic Remy this season scoring only once in all 11 games!
Fucking dreadful record and if they hadn't had a good start this year they'd be in about 16th by now. they have Arsenal and Liverpool left....if they hang on to 9th then it'll be because we let them, no other reason. it's there for the taking!
Newcastle stroll to anything??? my arse!

Beyond my dreams, but I just can't see us winning all four games. Always been a cup half empty sort of bloke though. Bit of a pessimist really.

If we finish 8th this forum will go into meltdown with "Hughes Out" next season, if we at any point look like finishing in the bottom half.
