Simple. IMHO Bobby Charlton is the greatest ever English player. Just wonder what makes him the greatest exactly, at least in your opinion? Ability, achievements, goals, influence? The mans so dull he makes Roy Keane seem charismatic..

If you play top flight football up to the age of fifty, they name an FA Cup Final after you and you still stay a grounded gentleman then you must be pretty special!
Oh and he was from Stoke on Trent!
Take a bow Sir Stan even though you preferred to be called plain old Stan!!

Bobby Moore was not knighted, wrong that he was not Died very young though KKK. It may have been on the cards if he was still around, but wasn't he something of a drinker? That stuff, charity work etc is all taken into account isn't it? On balance, I still think he should have been knighted though. But for the price of a Mexican necklace maybe he would have been.

His greatness is borne of resilience longevity skill medals and the priceless ability to perform in the biggest games. The other players have those qualities too by the way, I ain't criticising those brilliant players. The thing with Bob was the way he made such a brilliant contribution for England. Two splendid goals in the 66 semi then in the final selflessly sacrificed himself to nullify Beckenbauer. Even in his final moments as an England player it was his departure what led to West Germany's comeback.
