you can't buy heart and passion in the transfer window, and that's precisely what we are lacking more than anything. Too many luxury players, Arnautovic being the prime example, who aren't offering enough offensively to justify their lack of work rate and defensive contribution. It wasn't the defeat that bothered me today, I always knew it would be tough, it was the manner of it.
Much like Spurs away a few weeks ago, we showed absolutely no ambition, intensity or desire to win. Forget technically ability and passing pecentages, we need players who will play for the badge on the shirt and put their body on the line. Ryan Shawcross was the only player who demonstrated the commitment that is required today.
I hope the players are ready to fight for the cause in the next five months, because we are very much in this relegation battle, and on evidence of recent weeks I really do worry whether the necessary hunger is there.
