For the second time this season, Hughes hasn't used all his 3 available subs.
I'd like fellow supporters' views on why this is ?
To start things off, I wondered whether he was afraid we'd concede another goal afterwards, as per his previous 2 substitutions !

Why do you feel the need to use all three subs? If I was manager I would allways keep one up my sleeve just in case we had an injury.just imagine if hed used all 3 subs on the 80th min then sorro goes down injured and is unable to continue? We would have to play the remainder of the game with 10 men and an outfield player between the sticks.plus any extra time unprobable yes but you never know in football.then how much shit would mh cop on here for using all his subs?

Also until the second goal extra time was possible to use all the subs and then have to play 30 minutes and penalties without the chance to make changes would be stupid. After the second goal it was pointless as we had lost anyway. Of course Tony always made last minute time wasting substitutions even if we were 2-0 down.

In a Cup game where goal diff don't matter they should have gone three at the back and chucked Jones on, with Crouch. It was bizarre seeing Assaidi orchestrating the Palacios sub/not sub incident. It looked like Hughesy's roof was leaking last night.
Initially they were prepared to make really progressive in-game changes. Since Huth got knocked out {Norwich?}, with all the changes having been made early in the second half, the use of subs has become more conservative, more driven by injury/fitness than tactics.

Merlin the magician wouldn't have made one iota of difference.

I guess I was just looking around the 80 minute mark for a cameo performance by JP, akin to that of Assaidi in the Chelski game, which may get us to extra time. Though it pains me to be so negative, I think MH had forgotten that he had a third sub available; either that or he's the type to always keep something in reserve, even when all is lost.

Because we didn't want to let another goal in during the chaos which follows

It was bizarre he didn't bring Wilko on for Shawcross. Even the players couldn't understand what was going on which quite possibly had a bearing on the 2nd goal.
Made sense to have 1 in reserve at 0-1 in case we equalized and went to extra time
