Tbf to the ref though mate the linesman checked the nets so he had no option but to give it ? He must of been convinced as the ball ended up in the back of the net ?

I don't blame the ref at all, mate. What is more bonkers is that within 5 seconds it is obvious that it shouldn't be a goal and nothing gets done about it.

Similar happened years ago when Huddy, no less (playing for Chelsea) hit a shot which just missed but hit the stanchion and rebounded back into the field of play, and the ref Roy Capey (RIP - he was from Crewe and I think his brother, Derek, was Lord Mayor of Stoke not long ago ?? - might be wrong about the last bit) thought it had gone in and gave the goal.
Roy told me that years later he asked Huddy if he knew it wasn't a goal. Course I did said Huddy. Why didn't you own up, says Roy. "Because I was always taught never to argue with referees" was Huddy's classic reply.

Surely their goal line technology (they use a different system to our Hawkeye) should have spotted the ball never crossed the line between the posts?

If it's anything like ours it should be on all the time and (I think) buzzes when the ball crosses the line irrespective of it being a tight call.

I hate dealing with Germany the most inefficient nation in the world. I can order a part from singapore and its delivered in 48 hours. Order something from Germany and it takes weeks if not months. No wonder the EU is in such a mess.

Not sure how anyone can call them cheats. It was the refs mistake. You could call it unsporting, but I wouldn't call it cheating.

W e got done by this in an FA Cup 4th Round game at the Vic vs 3rd division Walsall in 60s. We were already losing 1-0 to a penalty stupidly given away by our keeper of the time Bobby Irvine. They then "scored"a second when the ball went in through a hole in the side netting. Incidentally Irvine never played again as Waddo dropped and then released him to make way for John Farmer.

Well at least we have goal line technology now I was wondering about that and if it would be used to correct this error - but I don't think it would be. It is only if the ball crossed the line, not where it crossed the line.
