Yes prawn crackers!! If you've got no work and will be claiming benefits and using the facilities of our bankrupt NHS then the authorities let you in. If you are going to be earning thousands being employed by an established premiership football club you have to jump through various hoops and satisfy a bunch of plonkers by having to get a work permit.

Not with a work permit involved Agreed. This will be harder than Cameron's work permit as he hasn't got the necessary International games - he's hardly played for the National side in the past 12 months. I think we should win on appeal though. To have 17 caps at age 20 is pretty good and we can probably argue a special case. It will be interesting to see how Mark Hughes manages with work permits - as a player he was a much higher profile than TP so, given that the appeals panel are mostly players, his words should carry some weight. We haven't had a player have a WP rejected in over 6 years, and I think it's been longer. Even Bedoya who wasn't much a part of the NT and playing in Sweden got a WP to play at Celtic. I don't think a WP will be a problem on appeal. Respect for American players has increased a fair amount. Don't forget, Cameron had only 3-4 caps total when he got his WP.

Better idea of the type of player compared to just goal highlights. Frumpy. Is he an out and out front man? Some of those highlights show him being a Tricky Dicky out wide-ish and then cutting inside. Or is the US NT set up with a lone striker who does a bit of both? Hmmm, he's versatile so that's somewhat tough to answer. I think he's best as a lone CF given his size, holdup ability and passing. He's pretty good at dropping deeper, holding up and and finding runs off him. He's a better lone CF at 20 than Altidore was. But, even though it hasn't happened much he's shown the ability to have success on the wing, the RW in particular. He can face up a guy and go 1v1. Has some pace, good technical ability and can play some good balls. Eventually he'll probably be the hold up man up top but until then as a sub option he could get time either up top, at RW or even as an attacking mid. And given what we've seen under Hughes so far, the diagonal runs, players switching sides, players interchanging, Juan's versatility is probably attractive. If he's moves around in a fluid attack and attacking from multiple areas I think he'll have success. Still think loaning him out this year would be a good option though unless Hughes thinks he can contribute this season.

Much like Shea Stoke should get him at a bargain price. He's injured, only played in half the games thus far and has four months left on his contract. 1.5-2M pounds. If he had another year or two on his contract and was playing the way he did pre injury and was healthy, MLS would probably hold out for 3.5-4M pounds. So, it's the prefect time. But, Stoke doesn't even have to buy him. Get his signature on a pre-contract to come over in Jan and there's no transfer fee, just pay him whatever his wages will be when he arrives. I think both Hughes and Juan might want him at Stoke now though. Hughes meeting with him personally in Philly and having scouted him for three years doesn't sound like he'd want to wait until Jan.

So Scholesy returns from negotiations stateside - and yet no fee breakthrough announced? SentinelStoke chief executive Tony Scholes returned to England yesterday after negotiations in Philadelphia and Kansas involving both the player and officials from the MLS, which has a say on the transfer of players from its member clubs.
Stoke's hierarchy remain hopeful of concluding a deal for the American international despite rival interest from at least one other Premier League club.

I guess we're thinking no more than 300/400k which I think is more than fair all things considered. And if they want millions I'd tell him wait until his contract ends, stick 200k on the deal we offer so he's willing to wait and sign him then (if we can) or he moves in January. If he's being bought for future front line purposes and not for current ones then there's no rush.
EDIT-just read the post above Grapey's. 1.5/2 million for a bloke who's played 60 MLS games and has 3 months left on his contract? If they want that I'd definitely tell them to get fucked and wait.

Not at all enthusiastic about this one. He strikes me as the D-list choice. I suspect Diouf will rumble on until deadline day and this is a cheap squad filler.
We need inside forwards to play either side of the target man, based on how we've lined up in America.

I'm not to enthused about all these MLS players were being linked with us, I'm not saying they are bad players cause I know nothing about them, I like the 2 we have ( not seen Edu) just don't want to fill the squad with them. Want some diversity in the squad to change things around

We need inside forwards to play either side of the target man, based on how we've lined up in America. It does appear he would suit that kind of role in the team though? If we are spending less on transfers & wages then this is the kind of deal we are going to see more of. We are only going to get a bigger name if we can get them cheap - hence cut price bid for Diouf who has 1 year left on his contract. Think we will get a lot of knockbacks for the Diouf type deals. What about high profile loans like WBA did last year?

I think we will try to buy from now, and if we are struggling to get players in then look to loans late on.
Moses would be well worth and inquiry.

Is that his agent talking or something? Seems a weird way of saying it, "follow the account You're already following".

Just wonder whether the announcement will be something other than an 'I'm joining Stoke' thing.
Maybe he'll say he'll see his contract out with MLS - and take his chances as a free agent in the winter?
Mind you, the security of a 4-yr deal with us on £1m-a-year would be tough to turn down in case he got injured/had a shite remainder of the season.
But would MLS and both clubs allow him the luxury of trailing, then announcing, his own transfer on his twitter feed?

This is starting to look like a done deal. Makes sense for the kid ahead of the World Cup......if he gets into the starting eleven on a regular basis.
