"Technically limited"
No thanks, we already have enough of those.

It's OK to be technically limited as long as you score enough goals! Never heard of him before, but he has scored nearly 100 goals in a little over 200 games according to Wikipedia which is quite impressive.

It would be ironic if we signed a Latvian. TP has family connections with Latvia - I think on his wife's side.

Decent scoring record.
I'll be honest and say I've never heard of him though.

Good scoring record wherever he's been and the Bundesliga is a very competitive league.

I was in hamburg in May with some mates to watch HSV v. Wolfsburg, and one of the main talking points during the match was how wank Rudnevs was. "Technically limited" is much too positive a description .....

His goal scoring record in domestic football is great. His record internationally is atrocious. 1 goal in 24 for Latvia

Thing about playing up front for Latvia will be, how many chances will he get a game against better opposition. If say San Marino had 1 striker who was playing in the Bundesliga banging goals in, come international matches you wouldn't think he's get a sniff when his team are trying desperately to get the ball away from their 18 yard box.

Latvian fans describe him as a "poacher" Celtic forumRudnevs scores most of his goals from inside the box, so he's definitely a typical poacher and he's not particularly versatile either. Sure, he can score goals (with a rare long shot thrown in the mix), but overall he's completely dependent on his teammates. Limited dribbling skills, limited passing skills. Doesn't play great defensively.
I am latvian, but I hope that Celtic will not buy Rudnevs. He is not good enough and I don`t think that he would suit Celtic because he is not good technically and is good only in penalty area. He has scored only one goal in almost thirty matches for national team and I don`t think that it`s only because other players aren`t good enough. But the main problem is that Rudnevs is not good person and very scandalous in Latvia. For example, in one interview he said that he doesn`t want to speak Latvian language because he is russian.
Believe me. I have seen him many, many times. He is not bad, but Celtic should get better. He can score goals, but need that all team play for him and is not good in passing.
Because he's a poacher and he's not particularly useful if the game isn't built purely around him.
Currently he's overrated by the market. He's still one of the best Latvian players and I hope he'll land in a top tier team with significant playing time, so Celtic wouldn't be the worst scenario by any means. But you should manage your expectations.

So all in all he thinks very highly of old Rudnev! He couldn't have made him sound more uninspiring if he tried. I'd still settle for him if it meant dropping the snail and the donkey.

"Who funds actually Stoke that they can afford such detachment as a gray mouse?"That is the question we have all asked this summer.

Latvia is no San Marino. We've got players from decent sides in the Premier League, Bundesliga, the Russian Premier League, Greece, Switzerland, Poland, the Championship, Norway, etc. San Marino has scored 2 goals in their last 25 matches. Latvia has scored 27 goals in their last 25 matches. Rud?evs has been our main forward for the last couple of years. And he's scored 1 out of those 27 goals.

Judging by those clips he thrives on good service from the flanks a lot of the time always seems to be in the right place at the right time though. Definite goal poacher type player.

If I'm honest id prefer the US lad who seems to have more to his game. This guy reminds me of Pog. We can get better. In fact we have better.

Agreed, Cobs, Agudelo has far more upside and would no doubt come cheaper too. Rudi is a box poacher, it seems, with little else to his game. If we are signing strikers to play as the spearhead in our new 4-3-3, we need another Ricardo - pace, power and trickery (but maybe a few more goals in his locker). I still think we missed a trick with Altidore, but time will tell. Diouf fits the bill far more, but it is gonna be a game of poker with Hannover as the transfer deadline approaches.
