I continue to be astonished at how much various posters know about the goings on inside the club. Every fucking word is nothing but conjecture. The one person who matters in this, Peter Coates, obviously doesn't share any of your opinions, but th n, you all know better than him, don't you? No doubt you all believe in Santa Clause, fairies and that NASA never went to the moon, and then people have the gall to call me deluded. That is all, I've had enough of arguing with the terminally thick.

Its a bit odd that a mid table Premiership club has lost out to a Ligue 1 club. Its doesn't happen all too often. Unless said Ligue 1 club offered more money??? Yes but I'd sit down and think very hard about that statement. Outside of PSG and Monaco, wages in France are not on the same level as the Premier League. I'd hope to god we haven't been financially blown out of the water by Rennes.

I think it'll be playing time that's sold the deal? He could be looking at starting every game. And their new manager does have a good reputation after getting Sociedad into the Champions League playing great football, which was apparently a bit of a miracle. And he'll be known to Oliveira after spending last season in Spain The emergence of this buy option is a bit of a baffler though. Rennes off. site"Nelson was our priority. He is a complete player and promising: he goes fast and takes good spaces. He is technically very good, but is also athletic. It is not for nothing that the attacker number 2 selection. " In lack of playing time in Galicia, the player on loan from Benfica hungry ball. And Stade Rennais may be the club that will give him the opportunity to play. "He did not hold because he was competing with a good striker Riki , who was 32 years old. They both had the same profile. The coach privileged experience. "
Requested during this transfer window including from English clubs, the Portuguese has yet chosen the project SRFC and the methods of Philippe Montanier he observed last year have certainly had an influence on his choice.
"He knows how the team evolves. I have had direct contact with him and I explained our project. "
The new Rennais arrives in Britanny on loan with option to purchase. After Manuel Mendonça, Portuguese striker recruited in 1966 by Silverster Takac, Nelson Oliveira is the second player Lusitanian at Stade Rennais FC

Just because we can pay more for a player than another team doesn't mean we always should; does it? I'm sure we could have made this lad our top earner and paid a huge transfer fee but if we do see him as worth it why should we? It may just be that him and his agent valued him higher than we did and Rennes agreed with him; nothing about ability to pay, just willingness.

It's only a loan though, isn't it? He'll still be on his Benfica wage for the year, regardless of where he goes.
What he wants is minutes on the pitch to further his career. He's only started 29 club games so far, and he needs to start playing regularly.

I've had enough of arguing with the terminally thick. Sorry this thread doesn't live up to your zeal for intellectual stimulus. I wouldn't go on the GDB if I were you, this place is like a salon of scholarly thought compared to that nuthouse.

Could be any number of reasons why - no need to assume the worst about us not signing him. Could have been unrealistic agent demands we would not pay (quite rightly), it could have been family reasons, he might just have preferred Rennes as a place to Stoke, shocking as that may seem! No reason at all to assume it is necessarily a mess our end.

Hey may have go e to Rennes because playing time would be easier to have ...
There are many reasons, not even the best teams win them all. Perhaps he should just go where he can be paid the most and rot like many who've gone up to the Etihad the past few years.

The increased playing time argument is a bit difficult to believe too, after the Portuguese journalist saying that Stoke were his preferred option over Rennes, 48 hours ago - but perhaps it all developed very late in the day.

Anybody else think this saga is starting to make our club look desperate? Sign or move on time for me. Dead right whether it's club, agent or player they're making us look a bit desperate stringing us along.

Er yeh I am sitting down thanks and I did think very hard (well actually not that hard as its not difficult). Who knows what they asked for and what we wanted to pay. One of the biggest criticisms levelled by some on here is that we aren't the worlds biggest payers in terms of wages etc. I'm not bothered if we were blown out of the water by Rennes we decided on the value and what we were prepared to pay and it didn't match what they wanted so the player went elsewhere.

Pretty gutted we haven't got him tbh.
Does seem strange that Hughes was happy to admit we were very much after him, and now we haven't been able to tie up the deal. I personally think it's over finances which is absolutely ludicrous seeing as though the other club have got an option to buy.
Get on to that Fabian lad, ASAP!

what is it down to then? What can Renness offer that we cant? League 1 is not as good as the prem will he get more playing time? unlikely will he get more money? - unlikelyAre Rennes a better shop window - no players will nearly always choose mid table prem over mid table french teams sorry but Scholes fucking things up seems the simplest & most likely (If not the only) answer as to why this player is not a Stoke player edit: its well known that Rudge & then TP did not value Scholes contribution to transfer negotiations so why it should it be any differnt now? Er how have you come to that conclusion? well...I thought it was clear that we are extremely short of quality in the attacking third & therefore a new player would expect to get straight in our side (whereas a Centre back wouldnt) to be fair re money as its a loan presumably he will get the same money however if there is a contract from Rennes at the end I fail to see how they can offer higher wages than any prem side.

How many 1st team games has this "star of the future" played? If he is so wonderful, why have his club not seen fit to play him?
Overrated, hawked about by grubby agents - let him rot in the [French] back yard of European football. Clearly didn't fancy it in the demanding PL. Hopefully, this thread will soon wither on the vine - as will his waste of our time.

I was intrigued to see whether we were getting the £24m rated player allegedly chased by Man Utd, Chelsea, Madrid and Barcelona 11 months ago, or the next David Bentley.
I suspect he might be more of a Bentley in the long run, but I was up for the experiment.
On to the next one, before signing Hoilett in late August.
