Obviously better to keep your powder dry until September and see what we get in. And you've got to be careful not to take the press as gospel. But it does at least seem like Diouf and Oliveira were/are serious, front-line targets. Not being willing to go to 6m or 7m for Diouf - and not matching the loan fee offered for a player by a mid-table club in an absolutely skint French league doesn't exactly fill you with confidence. But there could be things involved we don't know about. Concerning at this stage though. It is definitely concerning, the next couple of weeks will either confirm our worries or hopefully allay them.

A very long thread for a fruitless search. I'm intrigued as to what really happened. Twitter can build up things to be something they're not but it is worrying that such a small amount on the scale of things can take so long to argue over. I guess only when we kick off V Liverpool can we see How big a decision it really was not to pursue the deal.
For what it's worth I'm not devastated about us not getting him as he is very unproven and seems a bit of a clown as a person I'm more gutted about us not sealing the more exciting Diouf. We do seem to be a club that does struggle to clinch deals once the stories are released into the media.
I'm sure however that MLH can see if we stick with the attacking options we currently have Without adding to them we will be risking going down as we've been overtaken by all bar the 3 promoted clubs in the quality of our squad.
Challanging times ahead however to start criticising MLH and the Coates family at this point is unfair. I'm sure they both know that changes needs to be made but at a fair price the only thing that worries me is that by being too sensible could cost us when every other club is being silly because in the end the money saved in not overspending could be overridden by the loss of Premiership income. A difficult balance to maintan.

It seems like the same posters who slagged pulis off for years are already turning on the new manager and the owner, what a surprise. I'm happy with the new signings

Hughes is already starting to build a squad and buying in areas of weakness. How people can doubt him at this stage is quite frankly baffling.

Its amazing how quickly rumours on twitter can spread and how the same rumour can be slightly altered by people so they look like they're first to hear news. Rivetting though it is it's a right pain. I just wish the whole saga could be put to bed as its getting very silly. I agree the new signings have been excellent as are the quality of the trialists I just hope we can sort out our attacking options as Weneed a minimum of a striker and LW/RW as our rivals Norwich, Swansea, Sunderland, Villa appear to have overtaken us.

Most of all we need a winger able to beat his man and whip in crosses! Then if we can offload Crouch we can hopefully bring in another striker as well. Offer KJ an extension and things are sorted.

Lol...Hey lets sign a monkey from the zoo and put it in a stoke shirt...and be happy!! Wo wo.....how do you know? I have infact heard of both, I have known about Muniesa since he was 16 and pieters since he made his first international appearance. Just because you don't know who they are doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

If we get a winger who can do that then don't we need Crouch?!!! I really think and believe Kenwyne is better in the air than Crouch and a bigger threat in the box with his physical presence. I also believe now is the last time we can expect to get decent money for Crouch because of his age. If Crouch had been 28 I might would have chosen to keep him too!

People do seem concerned that this is another failed signing. The deal with Rennes could have been decided days ago for all we know. I'm comfortable that we are building a better squad and will only start to make bigger signings once a significant assessment of the players has been made. Until then we will not see much activity. Momo, people are doubting the club on their transfer policy. These are new, exciting times. Stoke fans will start to see better quality football. Even if we didn't make another signing, our current side would keep us up...playing players in their correct position and 'having a go' would make a big difference.

My god!
First we have every dog and his bone salivating at the 2 shrewd, technically gifted, signings made early on. PC, Cartwright and Sparkey "were" the "bees knees" around here.
Now we get the club trying to make decent sense of an erratic market, where stupid clubs like Blunderland and Bardiff etc are flashing the money and paying [frankly] ridiculous fees. However, now - when we appear to lose out [or make possibly, prudent decisions on not being held to ransom e.g. Diouf] - suddenly, PC, Cartwright and LMH are highly questionable and about to penny-pinch.
Grow up some of you - we've got over 4 weeks left and enough time to make progress. Talk about turncoats!

I might be easily pleased then because my undies are still drying from the signing of a Left Back from ABROAD who is a Holland International for less than £5 Mil!!!

The Sentinel (in a story posted after 6 am this morning) are still quoting our interest in both Oliviera and Diouf - even though they acknowledge the interest of Rennes they seem to think we are still in with a chance. Still live?

Just take into consideration that all this had come from one Portuguese journo.

To be honest I've never heard of either of the players we're linked with currently. As such, my excitement (or disappointment) should we sign or fail to sign them, will be fairly muted.
Would still like to sign Defoe.

Still live?I wonder when those Hughes quotes were made, pre or post the Houston game? The article reads as though Oliveira to Stoke is practically a done deal, if we've been pipped to the post since this interview Hughes might be a disappointed chap. He's clearly rates him highly.
