Mart - there's a HUGE difference between being racist and being patriotic.
Celebrating St. George's Day shouldn't be seen as racist. Sadly however, we've had that flag hijacked by the racists over the years. Really, we should claim it back for patriotism, but it will be seen as something else by the unenlightened and the PC stirrers.
There is also a real problem with your comments about the Irish, because of the fans who sing the St. George song and "no surrender to the IRA".
You see, whilst I support the call for a national holiday, I really can't condone calling another nation by a derogatory name.
Two wrongs don't make a right my friend.

Happy ST Georges Day ;D
I hate all this racism rubbish that attaches itself to St George and the St Georges Cross. The Irish lads and ladys drink loads of Guinness on St Patricks day but do we have a go at them for it, no we get down the pub and celebrate with them even though we are English.
We have heard hardly anything about a day that we should be celebrating being English no matter what colour, race or creed we are.

Although its officially not a bank holiday and I am at work I am celebrating St Georges day by not doing any work - as if it was a Bank holiday. Anyone join me in this new way of celebrating?

So tragic that a flag and a day that so encapsulates the pride, history and tradition of a nation can be hijacked by fascist thugs who wouldn't understand what it is to be English if someone drew them a diagram and Liberal idiots who automatically believe patriotism and racism are inexplicably linked. They would be well advised to remember that it is men & women who have fought underneath that flag that have given them the liberties and freedom of speech that they enjoy.
Christ, that's another sensible post. If i don't write something soon about dancing pilchards i'm going to lose my mojo.

That's all well and good Mildred, but unless they drop in price quite considerably, the coat made of badgers you long for is some way off.
