m.espn.go.com/soccer/story?storyId=1495721&src=desktopMeanwhile, copies of transfer documents from Santos football club, obtained by Brazilian media site Globoesporte, reveal that Barcelona paid €17.1 million for Neymar in what was an overall €57 million deal.
Of that, €9 million went to Santos, €7 million to investment company DIS Esporte and €1 million on taxes. The remaining €40.1 million, in the overall €57 million deal, was paid to Neymar and his father - also his agent - as "commission" and a signing-on fee.
The documents also show that Barcelona agreed to pay €2 million if Neymar finished among the top three finalists for the Ballon d’Or award. They also arranged to play two friendlies with Santos.Wow.

Does anybody know if that €40.1 million is paid in wages over his contract, or a lump sum in addition to his wages (minus his father/agents fees)?

I thought he bought a share of himself (that sounds strange). He purchased one part of the shared ownership in himself. Clever if you ask me.

So Santos have got 9million Euros and a couple of friendlies for selling one of the (touted as) best young players in the world today?
All that coaching and bringing him up was well worth it!
Jesus!

so what incentive does he have to perform well now?
I predict two mediocre years at Barcelona, a big money move to Milan/City/PSG, another 2 mediocre years...before returning to Brazil.

I would think that the knowledge that so much has been invested in him would put some pressure on him to perform. *shrug*

Was it Stanic or something a defender that TP signed during his first tenure whose contract TP described as being the most complicated he had ever seen in terms of people who were to benefit from the transfer fee. His siblings, parents, cousins were all going to get a slice according to TP.

There is pretty much zero chance of him being 'mediocre' anywhere imo. He's the next Bestplayerintheworld as Messi & Ronaldo start to wane.

He'll piss that up the wall in no time. Hasnt he already been bankrupt once? Good player but I see more Robinho in him than Ronaldo. Overhyped to fuck and looks more interested in the glamour than the game.

It'll be ace if he continues to grow and is brilliant at the World Cup.
As for the finance of the deal, I'm more suprised that people are surprised.

Who the hell are that mystery company who get a big chunk? How can the advertised transfer fee go into a player's pocket? What was the breakdown of the Crouch deal?

In Brzil/Eastern europe a lot of players have 3rd party ownership. Mhikitiryan who was going to join Liverpool, signed for Dortmund instead. His 32m move to Liverpool collapsed because 3rd party would get most of that, so instead he signed for Dortmund and kept the 3rd party. It's very unusual in England as it can make things very complicated but it's popular in South America. It was the same with Tevez at man City. Crouch deal, would have all gone to Spurs

Would none of the fee have gone to Crouch or his agents, on the basis that some of the transfer fee went straight to Neymar and not to his owner or agent?

Well with Tevez, his rights were owned by MSI and another company, almsot all of them so when he moved to West Ham, his old club Corinthians got fuck all basically. Thats the reason it seemed such a great signing, no Prem teams would touch him with a bargepole because of the 3rd party ownership. West ham took that risk and he kept them up so fair play West Ham got fined for it, because of rules back then, and then the rules got changed so he was allowed to play. Man Utd bid 20m for Tevez, and it was rejected, then a few weeks later MSI paid West Ham a chunky fee to get them to release Tevez from his contract, so they did. this met Tevez wasa free agent, but technically owned by MSI. MSI then loaned Tevez to Man Utd for 2 years, at the end of the 2 years he was a free agent again and Man City bought his 100% rights for around 45m euros. With Crouch, his agent wuold get 10%, but all agents do, with Neymar his father is his agent so they both would have got a fair bit. Theyve buoght him outright and Nike paid a bit towards Neymar as well because they wanted their star Nike man and the star Nike club.
